I made BOOM! Tondrek interjects, pointing the the flour residue left over from his arcane shenanigans.

Roswyn briefly shoots a disapproving glare at Tondrek. But when she takes in his simple half-orc face, free of any guile, her glare melts. She gives him a quick smile and a small nod before turning back to the guards.

The guards listen the stories of Tamarand and Roswyn. "Well, I don't like you doing my job for me. What is done is done though. We ain't gonna just let you off though. When word gets around that this happened in our area, if ain't gonna be pretty. You got more than words to persuade us?"

Roswyn nods. "Oh yes, sergeant, I understand completely. When word gets around... of course you can clarify things in your official report. Your response time here was excellent, this all happened so fast, but you still got here very quickly and gained control over the situation immediately, we'd all vouch for that! But making that clear in your report could be tricky..."

OOC: Bluff (1d20+11=31) ("Critical"! Woot!) Roswyn's eyes widen, and she puts a knuckle to her mouth, as if she's just realized something. "Oh! Yes, you're probably thinking about what happened to that guard captain in Stormhold last month, aren't you? From what I heard his squad did a fine job breaking up that burglary ring, a fine job, but the captain didn't pay too much attention to the reports he filed, his records of informant contacts were sloppy and out of date, and someone in the Watch HQ who had it out for him made it seem like he'd been letting the ring operate freely for months, and only cracked down when they cut back his take? And then when the complete audit turned up that he'd been padding his duty rosters, with a cousin who actually lives in Aundair drawing pay... It's really hard to slip that kind of thing by these days, ever since the HQ started taking on Sivis consultants..." The gnome's cheeks flush slightly, and she looks down at the ground. "Well, I'm sure they could have done worse to that captain than assign him to night patrol in Malleon's Gate - right?"

She looks up and coughs. "So I can sympathize with your concerns... without properly written and filed reports, people could easily get the wrong idea about what happened here. That could be unfortunate... for all of us. But you know, I'm really good with paperwork - it's my job! Maybe I could help you out with that, make sure everything is tidied up good and proper? Save you a little time too, so you can stay out on the street and concentrate on real police work..."

Rohna leans over to the ear of their negotiator whispering. "Hows about we split the salvaged armor, weapons, cart and horses here of these ex gang members. Could be a tidy little side profit to a guardsmen salary with the proper fence?"

Roswyn winks at the goliath, thinking, Hmmm, not bad... maybe she's not as much of a hick as she seems?

She continues addressing the guardsman. "In fact, I can see you're going to have your hands full cleaning up here, and making sure that these criminals... and their armor... and weapons... and horses... and cart are properly... disposed of. I'd be happy to help you with all the accounting paperwork for that, as well. In fact, I'd be happy to stop by your station house a couple of nights this week and finish up all your paperwork - on an informal basis, completely free of charge, of course!"

Her spiel delivered, the gnome looks up at the guard sergeant hopefully, waiting for his response.

Tondrek doesn't have a deceitful bone in his body. Its caused him trouble previously. :)[/sblock]

[sblock=OOC]Yeah I realize that... Roswyn just forgot it for a moment and thought he was making fun of her or trying to undermine her efforts, until she remembered that he's "special". :)[/sblock]

The guard nods. "We benefit each other then. We'll split the money we gain from the selling of these thugs loot and you'll file our paperwork for us. Don't come the the headquarters though, they might get suspicious. Where can we find you when we make the trade?"

[sblock=ooc]We can use this point to recruit another if you guys wish and return to the tavern for a moment. It shouldn't take too long. Plus, Ronald has a couple things to pass out.[/sblock]

[sblock=Swoosh]Not to force you guys one way or the other, but Mal's character does seem to be going a little stir-crazy in the tavern by himself.[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]Ummm... where should we tell the guard to meet us? I'm not sure... the tavern?

As far as recruiting... adding another controller is not ideal from class balance perspective, but I don't care much about that. I'm a little more concerned about our lack of melee characters. It pretty much leaves Rohna as the only melee'er... I guess Tordek is maybe an "off melee"? But, it's not like we have a plethora of choices.

Anyway, I'd be happy to have Mal's character join us and see how it goes.[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]Yeah you could say that, it'd be very convenient considering we need to recruit. Two controllers could be interesting, especially in the next encounter I have planned. Later tonight, unless people have objections, I'll move the "game thread" to there for now, for rp, planning and such.[/sblock]

Roswyn smiles. "As you wish, sergeant. You can find us at the Tower's Shard later tonight."

Too bad he didn't bite on the offer to do all their paperwork at headquarters, that would have been a nice opportunity to learn some things... probably nothing too juicy for the reports on a crappy district like this one, but you never know. Plus there might have been some information about Ronald and this kobold gang... Well, I'll try to keep the channel open, maybe there will be another opportunity later.

[sblock=Going to tavern]That's fine, but we also have a kobold prisoner, do we not? Are we bringing him to the tavern too?[/sblock]

Rohna seems pleased with her suggestion being liked and accepted. Mitra bares her teeth at the city guard but a coarse few words from Rohna in a grinding, gravelly language and the baby dire bear is cowed. She turns from the guards and trots off a few squares where she vanishes mid stride.

When the meeting place is established at the shard grins before dismounting and starting to pack the kobold bodies onto the cart. Mitra fades back into being and wrangles the horses back towards the front of the cart. While working she leans over to Roswyn and whispers something else.[sblock=@ Roswyn]"Should we even tell them about the slew of other bodies back at the shop or just reclaim the gear of those for ourselves? Scale armor fetches a hefty price on the open market, and we have several suits of it just lying there waiting to be cleaned and resold."[/sblock]

[sblock=@ Rohna]Good point... no need to mention any of that to these guardsmen, I think, but some other patrol may have already arrived at that scene. Perhaps we should stop by there on the way back to the Tower's Shard and see. Ronald's shop might make a convenient spot to speak with our prisoner, too.[/sblock]
