(Adventure) Hunt for the Cirya de Pietro [Judge - garyh]

As each of the sailors is introduced, Katherine greets him in his native tongue and gives him a quick once over. Once everyone has settled, Katherine presents the ships orders with their names added and speaks briefly.

"In matters of our main destination and conduct, I will give orders suscinctly as needed. In the workings of this ship and the individual tasks you take to, my authority is vested in the second mate, Ricardo. Should we encounter danger, you will obey the orders of the mate, Hallandor, without question. If you have your own ideas of how a ship should be defended, I'm sure he will welcome discussion of them prior to danger, but if there is trouble, the Gazelle will act as one ship, under one set of orders." She does not ask for conformation of her orders, giving the impression both of confidence and trust in the new crew. "Mr ao'Thuir, Mr Remi and Mr Zumar are not expereinced seamen, but they have a role to play on this voyage as well. I expect us to sail as soon as feasable, so the second will put you to your tasks."

OOC: perform: oratory +6, iirc.

OOC: just to let you know Gnomeworks...I'll be out of town until Sunday (holiday things with family...happy Turkey day to one and all!) Just go ahead and auto him as needed....

ao'Thuir joins Remi at the bow taking in the sights before the ship leaves port.

[ooc: I will be away till the 9th, autopilot me please. Mostly he tries to help but really only shines in combat.]

OoC: Ack! Sorry about leaving you in the cold again, folks, but I left for Cincinnati last week, and didn't get back until Sunday. Yesterday, when I tried to post, the boards were down, and I wasn't able to.

Sorry about that! That should be the last time I disappear for awhile, though if something does come up I'll try to give you some fair warning...

The crew is attentive to Katherine's speech, nodding in accordance with each of her decisions. They look to each of the indicated people as they are mentioned, and look slightly impressed.

Almost instantly after Katherine finishes her speech, Ricardo gathers the rest of the crew and starts talking to them in low, fast tones. After only a few minutes of discussion, they disperse with purpose.

A small time later, the ship departs. Ricardo approaches the group, nodding before he speaks.

"We've cast off." He says. "However, we need a heading... can ye tell us where we be headin', miss?" He looks to Katherine.

Katherine smiles and names the southern port city she had discussed with master jericho.
OOC: don't want to look back through the notes
"use your judgement to keep us safe and on course, Mister Ricardo."

OoC: Just looked through the conversation... Jericho didn't mention any cities, though he said that there were port cities every few days along the coast to the south.

"Aye, miss." Ricardo says, nodding his head. "We'll be doin' our best. She's a fine craft."

OoC: Actually, I was waiting for KB to post something about how many cities south she wanted to go, or how many days... but it sounds like she's gone MIA again. :(

The first two days of the voyage go well. Jericho updates you on a regular basis, and he assures you that the Gazelle is making good time. Land is just out of sight, and she is clipping along at fine speeds to the south.

The third, however, begins with a light drizzle, the skies overcast and gray. Even after the rain lifts, the sky remains cloudy, and a light mist has gathered.

"This ain't good." Jericho observes.

A few hours pass, and it seems to be around noon. The Gazelle has slowed, and Jericho explained that they had for caution.

The mist has started to lift - then, a cry breaks the silence...

"Pirates! Starboard! They'll be catchin' us in a few minutes!"

"What do ye be wantin' us ta do?" Jericho asks, running up to the group. "They must've been followin' us in th' mist an' rain... we can try ta outrun 'em, but I don't know if she'll be able ta make it. We'll need ta get out inta open water, or else she'll trap us between her an' land."

sorry, I'd planned on us going far enough south to hit a decent trade city where we would be strangers before starting "phase two".... Mwhahahahaha*cough*, excuse me....

assuming Jericho is actually ricardo, since we weren't taking our employer... :p

Katherine nods sharply to Hallandor. "You're up. Prepare everyone, but wait until its completely neccassary to fight." To Ricardo, she says "This ship came with some promises and we'll test them out... Do these pirates ever work together? If they are running us out to meet another ship I'd rather they 'catch' and board us and we fight the one ship on those terms."
