Adventure Ideas from Songs

Holy God, enough metal already! ;)

My personal best "idea" album has been the Talking Heads' "Remain In Light", which is a gold mine of abstract concepts with emotional resonance.

"He wonders if he too might have made a similar mistake..."

But I've found all sorts of music to be useful. In my last homebrew world, I stole one of the organizations from a Tori Amos song, one of the countries from a Pogues song, and one of the religions from an XTC song. It's just a matter of being in the right state of mind to let ideas germinate, I guess.

Leaves are falling all around, It's time I was on my way.
Thanks to you, I'm much obliged for such a pleasant stay.
But now it's time for me to go. The autumn moon lights my way.
For now I smell the rain, and with it pain, and it's headed my way.
Sometimes I grow so tired, but I know I've got one thing I got to do...

That's the first song which came to my mind! Only that, you know the next part kind of reminds me of something already done... ;)

T'was in the darkest depths of Mordor, I met a girl so fair.
But Gollum, and the evil one crept up and slipped away with her, her, her....yeah.

You can NEVER have enough metal. :)

Every one of us has heard the call
brothers of true metal proud and standing tall
they know the power within us has brought us to this hall
There's magic in the metal there's magic in us all
Heavy metal or no metal at all
Wimps and posers leave the hall
Heavy metal or no metal at all

Big fan of the Talking Heads (as if my sig quote didin't point that out), and inspiration from XTC is good, especially with songs like Green Man floating around.

I've always thought that these songs made a good adventure premise:

The Calling - Wherever you will go (A paladin has fallen in love with a maiden and must journey to hell to rescue her soul.)

Styx - Renegade (A rogue with the party is on the lamb from law enforcement. The law catches him and now the party must free him before he walks to the gallows.)

Sammy Hagar - Mas Tequila (This has bar brawl written all over it.)

Red Rider - Lunatic Fringe (Good one for an adventure with an obsession theme. Something that is just on the edge of being grasped by the group, but yet out of their reach as they pursue it relentlessly, possibly even at the risk of their very sanity.)

I'll have to give this some more thought and come up with some country tunes... :)

I'm exceptionally shocked that I'm the first person to bring up Dead Can Dance and their influence.

While their lyrics may (or may not) inspire adventures, their music during an adventure is utterly inspiring! (So I guess that counts!)
I'd be a bit unnerved to hear someone talk about the "Cocteau Twins dungeon level" though.... (wink wink)

Quoted by ME!!!
Pretty much anything that Dead Can Dance and the Changelings have done.

[Butthead's voice/] Uhhhhhhhhhh, Beavis?

And "Scissorman", too.

Snipping, snipping, snipping comes the Scissorman...

Based on an English bogeyman, so I hear.
