(Adventure) Immortality Awakens (Knight Otu Judging) Part II

"Are you going to be so blase? I trusted you. I was so sure you were heroes, I overlooked your lack of manners as simply a gruff exterior from a life of adventuring, but I didn't realise that my old father was right about adventurers, they're just murderers, villains, and blackguards. Well, have you come to submit to justice for the charge of murder of a defenseless man?"

"And how did you judge us?" Anton looks up at the balcony, a bit annoyed. "Show us that Sykhia is safe."

"The man died over a quarrel, regarding the honor of the party."

"I assure you I had no part in what happened to that man other than trying to save him. I am sorry for your loss and his loss to his family, but I'm here to assume Sykhia's safety, as she was less than enthusiastic about coming here last I spoke with her."

"Of course she is safe--at least until I bring her forth for you to pepper her with arrows! Nay, villain. You will not lay a hand on her. If not to submit to justice, do you want your arrows back? Here!" he flings the blood-encrusted arrows from the balcony to drop somewhat in front of Anton's feet, not a good enough throw to make it all the way.

"These two have something to say. I didn't want to risk their lives to your arrows, but I owe it to them for years of loyal service."

"You killed my Osric!" the woman cries out in tears, "He never hurt nobody. Why did you kill him, you horrible monster!"

"Daddy!" the young boy cries out in tandem with his mother.

Anton shakes his head, "I do not kill without cause. As I said, it was a matter of honor."

Not expecting them to listen to him anyway, he shrugs and gets his arrows. <Why waste good arrows?> He inspects them to make sure they are still usable--he'll clean them when he has some extra time.

"Then let me in to see her. I'll leave my weapons by the door. I am as sickened with his death as you are."

"I am the only one who killed your messenger. I am not proud to have done it, but I saw it as a necessity. I am sorry for the loss of the family and that circumstance required for the messenger to have been such a cruel person." He looks around, "Hence, the only weapon you have to fear is my own. If it will help, I will stand a distance away and lay down my weapons so that my comrades can see the condition of Sykhia."

"Cruel? Osric never hurt a fly, you bastard! The worst things he's ever done were cheat at cards once to get out of chores and tell some off-colour joke about 'a girl from Momnemvassia'."

"I have no idea why you want to see my beloved, but I'm not going to allow it until the murderer submits to justice. I heard there were no other wounds but the two arrows, but the rest of you are complicit by association. Nonetheless, only the archer then must serve his sentence. If you hand him over for trial, you will be cleared of all charges of complicity. Otherwise, you will be deemed equal accomplices."

"The messenger was obviously a different person when not in your presence. And, what is the sentence for a murderer?" If the sentence is death, Anton will just leave.

"It varies from twenty years of hard labour and branding as a murderer to life indenture to death, based on the circumstances of the crime and other situational aspects."
