"Tandi why dont you take Laynie over there to see how her doggie is doing."

And after Laynie is OUT OF EARSHOT (move the party if necessary)

"Look guys, just because a child cries is not a reason to give her whatever she wants. We cant just leave an orphaned child wandering around the wilderness, even with a render as protector...it would have been killed today, if not for us, and then she would have been left in the wilderness alone, since I'm sure those hobgoblins would not have helped her. We have to take her to a town, and find someone to raise her. I dont think we can separate the render from her without killing it, and I dont think it will be taken in by the villagers. I believe that our only choice is to kill the beast, because it poses too great a threat. Does anyone see any other viable options?"

Anton looks dubious, "First of all, I do not propose we let the girl have her way due to her crying. She has been with this render for a while now, and that they are both alive is proof that they can get along with each other. We do not know if it would have been killed today, since we assisted in attacking it, but I do not consider a band of orcs and hobgoblins terribly common in a day. I do not know where we can find such a town, but I would not be surprised if there is one where a render could find a nearby cave to protect the town from. A village doesn't have to take in the render. It may seem like a far-fetched idea, but killing the render is not the only answer."

Somac: Male Human Bbn 3

Somac shoots Vrina an evil look as she relates what the arcanist supposedly told her. He says in Orc: [sblock]"I suggest you not try to sow strife among friends until you have proven yourself with us, woman. If you are lying, I will find out, and then I will give you what you wanted before. If you are not lying, you would still be served best by staying out of it."[/sblock]

When the party starts openly discussing killing the render, Somac quietly apologizes to Vrina. "I see now I should have trusted you," he says. "I'm sorry we put you in that position."

Then, to the others, "Let's just heal it up a little and see how it reacts. If it befriends us we have a powerful ally. If it attacks, we should be able to easily kill it. The girl will see the attack and know we did what we had to do."

Anton nods, "Yes, that sounds like a wise idea."

*Vrina looks hurt, like a messenger who has been shot for delivering her message, then replies in Orc.*
[SBLOCK]
"I didn't say I agree with him--I don't, and I've said as much already...I agree with you that the poor thing should be spared, but I told you exactly what he said. I suppose then, you do not wish me to accept requests from your comrades? My mistake--understood. It will not happen again. Though if I have displeased you sufficiently, perhaps you will kill me?"
[/SBLOCK]

"How does that address the problem at all? The problem is not if the render will attack us. The problem is will the render willingly be separated from the girl, who cannot be left to wander in the wilderness? I dont think you can explain to the beast that it should stay in a nearby cave. It will want to be in sight of the girl, and no town is going to take in a render. What if some little boy pulls her hair, and the render decides it is an attack and kills the little boy?

Let me put this another way. Imagine this creature is a weapon, in fact, a very powerful weapon. One that would kill a few of us before we could stop it. Would you allow a 4 year old to have such a weapon? Even given such a weapon, would you allow a 4 year old to wander in the wild?

It is awful and unfortunate, but for the sake of the child, I dont see any alternative. We have to separate them, and to keep the render from the child, we have to kill it."

Anton raises an eyebrow, "Although you assume the render is a weapon, or otherwise dangerous. My understanding is that the render will not attack unless threatened. Due to that, he is no more dangerous than any of us."

"It is a predator. It kills for food, every day. More than that, what causes it to feel threatened? Wont it attack if it thinks the little girl is threatened? We cant control it. The little girl cant control it. Taking it into a town would be like taking any powerful wild beast into a town...irresponsible and dangerous.

However, the actual danger is not relevant to my point. The little girl needs a home, and people to take care of her. We are not going to find a family that will take the little girl with the render. If we leave the render alive, but separate it from the girl, it will most likely follow the girl to wherever we leave her. I think you can see how that might turn out badly."
