[Adventure] KOGANÙSAN (DM: Sanzuo, Judge: TwoHeadsBarking)

Brenwar is impressed by the carving of the lizard and a bit worried at the falling ash. When he arrives at the river Brenwar is visibily worried, "Swimming is a bit difficult with all of my gear on." He looks over at Shale, "I hope this floating disc is strong enough otherwise I will need the grace of Palladys to cross this river."

After trying for a while it looks like the Disk is to small for two, even sitting on it legs hanging; and piling on it makes the whole thing unstable. "This is frustrating. Looks like you'll have to get wet, though I can make your life easier carrying your gear to the other side. Tell me if I could be of more assistance; I have some lenght of rope that may be helpful."

OOC: Shale's Arcana is +12. Since the DC is 12, that virtually counts as an auto success for the rest of the party. Yay, I'm useful

Karma recognises one of the plants, the fascinating lymphae fructus which is known for water proofing qualities. While not an alchemist Karma thinks he knows enough to grind the membranes into a liquid. Applying the cream to his skin he hopes it will atleast repel some of the water reducing his weight and keeping him just a little bit warmer...

Karma looks at his hands and looks at the water.. Jumping in he clearly didn't factor in the shock factor of suddenly submerging into cold water. By the time he recovers he is already under the water, the only thing saving him from hypothermia the impromptu herbal water repellent.

Karma dissapears under the water clearly unable to swim against the currents in his current condition.

When everyone thought him gone, a geyser appears, water turning to steam. Out of it with seemingly the last remnants of energy Karma propels himself out. His customary psionically charged hands carving through the water.

He manages to get to the disk and climb onto it, to be pulled back by his friend.

Without giving much thought to strategy, Halleck made a short, silent prayer to the gods, then looked up at his companions. "Guts before glory, gentlemen!"

With a running start, he dove into the muddy river with a plop. And to the surprise of all, this tactic worked. His momentum propelled him almost a quarter the way across. His quick movements kept him from getting stuck, and also got him hastily over to the other side. He used Shale's disk to help pull himself up at the end, and stood wiping the larger chunks of mud off of himself.

"So, how do I look?"

Shrakk can't help but feel a bad omen as he looks at the river. Swimming, after all, was one of the things he never really managed to master.

Knowing that just jumping into the river would not work for him, he takes a deep breath and focuses on the flow of the river, staring intently though the water, searching for the best spot & time to cross.

With a small prayer he jumps into it as soon as he notices a small decrease on the current, and swims as best as he's able to. Just as he felt about to drown, he manages to reach Shale's floating disc and then, the other side of the river.

"That was ... too close for my linking. When we return we should definitively find a better place to cross."

"That was a joke"

The half-elf bellowed a laugh that opposed his relatively thin frame. "Very good! I think we will do quite well together. You, my friend," Halleck said, throwing a dripping arm over Shale's shoulder with a wet slap, "you will be my straight man."

GM: While we wait for Brenwar and Kavac to cross the river. I'll take this moment to describe the features of the area in greater detail.

[sblock=Map of Area]Note: Map is not to scale, it is actually twice as tall north-south than it is wide east-west.

The following is what you can obviously see from the east side of the river.

River: Full of fine ash so thick, it has the consistency of tar.

Big Field of Carnage: A bleak field of hardened black rock and obsidian in the shape of when the lava was still flowing. It is mixed with the bones of countless animals and humanoids sticking out of the rocks at jagged angles. Some of the bones are... enormous. Could these belong to the elephants of legend?

Moats: These are two, 20-foot-wide channels, likely artificial, that are dug into the ground about 300 yards apart. They are full of water that flows out from grates in the cliffs and drains into the river.

Main Gate?: This gatehouse is carved out of the living rock of the mountain and it is enormous. There are fortifications about 50-feet high above the ground and the gates themselves seem to be closed.

Small Entrance: About 150 yards north of the main gate, just short of the moat is what looks like a man-sized opening in the side of the cliff.

Big Cave: About 100 yards south of the main gate, atop an incline is a large, cavernous opening into the rock. It is dark and ominous.

Another Small Entrance: Further South of the Big Cave and even higher along the cliff is another small opening.

ooc: As well, while we're waiting...

"Multiple potential options to enter, no previous information. I'm thinking, Manley may know more about this place - he's been researching this place for long. Maybe it's time to use that stone."

Sorry for the late reply, but real life happens sometimes.

Brenwar takes Shale up on the offer of lifting most of the encumbering armor over the river. Without the heavy plate and armor Brenwar easily manages the river. Once he arrives at the other side, "Thank you for the assistance Shale, I don't believe I could have been made it without your help." With that said Brenwar cleans off the best he can before putting his armor back on.
