[Adventure] KOGANÙSAN (DM: Sanzuo, Judge: TwoHeadsBarking)

"Good to know. That was very specific and helpful."

As always, Shale's static pose and monotone voice makes him very difficult to "read", but you can tell that he maybe is trying to be sarcastic.

"Let's check the doors, pehaps we can think on a way to get past them, and if that doesn't work, the caves."

"But in any case, I'd try to avoid this field of bones. There must be a reason so many creatures died here."

"Oh, well... from what you are describing, it is clear the creatures were caught in some kind of geological event, like a uh, lava or pyroclastic flow. The chances of there being another event like that during your brief visit is astronomically low. I wouldn't worry about it. Hrm... Let me know if I can lend any further assistance... and don't forget the map, please."

"Well, that didn't really help much after all. Shall we try the small entrance first?" asks Shrakk as he keeps his eyes open for those wildlife problems.

We lose nothing by checking the doors first but a minute. They may have clues about what happened here, if it's only that they got stuck in rock too, trapping the dwarves

The party carefully makes its way across the lava rock and bones. The smell of smoke and sulfur is stronger as you approach. You pass a pile of what look like the skulls of those monkeys you fought yesterday, stacked up neatly in a small pyramid. The gates of the fortress are huge and made of solid granite. The gates themselves are engraved with great detail:

On the doors are images of dwarves and elephants. The elephants are striking a menacing pose. The dwarves are making plaintive gestures. There is a dwarf impaled on the tusk of an elephant. The dwarf is vomiting. Everything is on fire.

Even with everyone pushing on one of the gates, it does not budge even slightly. It may be barred, or more likely there could be a cave-in on the opposite side. Karma casts telepathic thoughts through the gates and gets only silence in response.

Just as the group is about to give up, Shrakk notices a narrow hidden path to the left of the gatehouse that winds up the cliffs. The path was previously unseen at the riverbank, but now everyone sees it.

"Agreed. The small entrance then."

Shale nods.

Any choice seems now as good as any other, and I don't see the point on climbing the cliffs.

I find the idea of murder elephants intriguing, though

[sblock=ooc:]I know there are two small entrances and we keep talking about "the" small entrance, so... let's start with the north one

Edit: also, looks like I posted while Tenchuu was editing his post. I still vote for the caves before the cliffs, though: I bet the dwarves live(d) underground[/sblock]

GM: It seems like the general consensus is the small entrance to the north.

This opening has clearly been carved out of the stone by hand. Being built for dwarves, you will have to crouch if you move through. The corridor beyond is very dark.

[sblock=Low-Light Vision]A short distance in you can see the corridor opens into a small cavern. The light from the outside is too dim to illuminate much more than that, however.[/sblock]
