Rujah rouses to an uneasy sight, from one battle to another. At first, he despairs, but Riardon's words provide courage and healing.
The rest of the party ready themselves, and prepare for the onslaught of the undead. The boats draw closer, and yet another barrage of javelins comes down on them. Jin, Talon, Dayna, and Riardon each absorb their share of steel rain, but shake as the first wave of decaying creatures crawls over the rail. Jin swings twice, blade-over-blade, quickly dispatching one, but missing the second, which proves to be a painful error. The drowned one bites into Jin’s right arm as he climbs up the side of the boat, causing blood to pour from the gash. Fenwick is ready with his axe, but the axe doesn’t seem as ready. It strikes the water, and the orc is forced to reposition himself for another swing. As he does, one of the acquatic zombies attempts to follow the lead of the other. He bits into Fenwick’s arm, but his teeth shatter harmlessly on the orc’s bicep and fall out onto the floor of the boat. Yet another zombie attempts to grab Dayna, but the wolf is too far back from the rail for the zombie to get a good reach. His bony fingers snap on thin air.
From the front of the boat, one of the drowned corpses climbs over the rail and moves toward Riardon, but as he does so, he loses his footing, collapsing in a heap at the Eladrin’s feet. Fearful, the decaying body casts a cowardly eye up at the warlord, expecting the worst.
Rujah is assaulted, from two sides, but he’s fresh and confident. They’re no danger to him…yet.
The party, being busy with the starboard side of the boat is taken completely by surprise when four more zombies manage to climb over the rail on the port side. They manage harm to Fenwick and Talon, but the one in the stern trips over a dead comrade and goes down, struggling, but unable to stand just yet.
As the battle is progressing, none in the party fail to notice that more lights are appearing off the stern of their boat. The sound of creaking timbers, now becomes audible over the cacophony of battle. Lamps are being lit, and as they are, they begin to illuminate a large naval craft one segment at a time, until it becomes apparent that the ship has been extremely close for some time.
Gruff voices are heard from the deck, though the deck is so high that no one can be seen, and a huge anchor drops from the bow causing the calm, foggy water to heave violently around the smaller boats.
Jin casts an eye, quickly in the other direction, to the west, and swears that he catches a glimpse of their dwarven charge. He’s lying tied up on floor of the boat off their own bow.
