Adventure:Land Ho! FWBTHW (DM:H.M.Gimlord,Judge:Ozymandias79)

"I can understand your suspicion, but let me assure you, we mean no harm to Hankel," Jin said, holding up his empty hands to emphasize his point. "It is the exact opposite. We fought with an evil man, who was in possession of these papers. He escaped, and we pursue him now. He may know where Hankel is. This man may have done ill to your teacher. Will you help us?"

But he leave town a few days ago you say? To where? He tell you he was going, or he just disappear?"
Firebyrne shakes his head, "He left three days ago on business with Lord Hallmaster. They took the East Road, and said they wouldn't be back for two or three months, perhaps to scout iron veins. I'm not entirely sure," he shrugs, "I'm afraid that if you want to get a hold of Hankel, you're three days too late." His eyes grow brighter, "Your story, however, has peaked my curiosity. If what you say about Blagarm's cellar is true, Jahred needs to know. Rioc Parvel cannot tolerate a thieves den right here in the harbor."

"I doub't that harm has come to Hankel just yet. I imagine that you're weapons were stolen from someone who paid Hankel rather than Hankel himself. In any case, if you identify the man, both Jahred and I would like to know as soon as possible."

Talon closes his eyes and cocks his head to the side while thinking back to the events of a week or so ago and the discussions with the others about the parts he missed when he got transported to the boat. After a long moment, he opens his eyes and speaks to Firebyrne, "Bandit leader was smarter than others. Dressed good and acted... like he better than anybody else. Stuck up, fancy, like that. Other bandits were unmemorable, except for beast handler with flying lizards, dual knife fighter, and halfling who was deadly with his sling. Others said halfling was called Smoc, and two other names mentioned were Devor and Lars. Maybe if those three are known, their usual crew and leader are known too?" Talon wonders aloud.

...Others said halfling was called Smoc, and two other names mentioned were Devor and Lars. Maybe if those three are known, their usual crew and leader are known too?"
At the mention of names, Firebyrne starts to pay closer attention, "Well Smoc is no surprise, and his presence in your story lends you credibility. He's a known thief, but connecting his name with Blagarm's basement is a serious accusation considering that Blagarm, himself, had Smoc put in the stocks for thievery on more than one occasion. I, myself, was one of his victims on the night I first arrived here. I can't believe I spared his miserable life," Having lost himself in a reverie, he snaps back to the matter at hand, "Did you get any surnames? I know three men by the name of Lars in this city, and one of them is the man riding with Hankel."

"Not likely the same man, since we killed all three of those with names we heard. Only leader lived by jumping into river to escape." Talon tells Firebyrne. "Maybe guard captain who left could help authorize access into basement if report of crime committed there was made?" the shifter wonders aloud.

Firebyrne strokes his chin, "Perhaps we'd better go take a look then. Right now Jahred's making his rounds. You want to try and find him or see if the old lard bucket will let us down there quietly?"

"Probably should try quietly first. Maybe threaten innkeeper with getting guards involved if he not want to let us downstairs by ourselves. And if he worried about us messing with his business stuff, we show him secret door leading to other rooms which is where we wanna go anyway, not to mess with his supplies. Unless he want criminals having access to his supplies instead. If it same basement even. Have to see it first to know..." Talon stops for a moment to think. "But if it is same, that gives us more leverage. Hmmm..."

Talon grabs a piece of paper from his pack and something to write with and starts sketching out a map of the basement they were in where the secret door was. Mumbling to himself, Talon draws it out as best he can remember, "Big wine casks here... tables of food... here...stairs upward...over here...cellar door to outside there. So if Innkeeper not want to let us investigate because he not believe us about being there, we show this to see if his basement is actually laid out like this. If not, then we wrong. If it is, he has to wonder how we know and maybe believe us. If he believes us, he better be worried about thieves with secret door into his basement because guard captain will be interested if he isn't." Talon smiles a wicked smile like a predator who knows his prey is cornered. "What you all think? Sound like plan?"

Firebyrne stands up,"Well then, let's go see what mysteries lie in Blagarm's pantries, shall we?" He strides over to the door and opens it, stepping to the side like a doorman to allow the others to pass through. When everyone is in the common room, He comes out last and moves quickly to the bar, signaling the corpulent barkeeper's attention, "Blagarm," he mutters in a low, grating voice, "These strangers seem to have evidence that the stores in your cellar are not as secure as you may think," He turns to Talon, "Perhaps you should enlighten him with your tale."

"Oooboy." Talon says before taking a long pull from his drink to moisten his throat. He was going to need it to tell a story like this. The shifter takes a seat at the bar so he can lean forward and speak to the barkeep without others overhearing hopefully. "Blagram. I'm Talon and these others are my comrades in arms. We come from a far away city called Daunton. Our last job was to retrieve a necklace that had been dropped through a cellar door by the owner of that cellar. But someone else was suddenly in the cellar and it didn't look like his cellar anymore. The other person took the necklace and locked the closed the cellar door. We were hired to go in and retrieve the necklace from the cellar that somehow didn't belong there. It was magically switched with some other cellar somewhere, or a magic portal leading to the other cellar maybe. Your cellar we now thinkit was, based on the smokeless candles. We found a secret door in that cellar that led to a den of bandits. We killed all of them but their leader who escaped. One of them was a halfling named Smoc who Firebyrne tells us is known here. At the far end of their hideout was an underground waterway connecting to a river where they had a boat tied up."

Talon takes another sip of his drink before continuing. "If this is your cellar, then thieves have been hiding just behind your walls below. We would like your permission to look in your cellar, and if it is the same and we can show you the secret door, then maybe we can search the thieves den beyond that to make sure none of them remain. Then you will have a decision to make about how or if you seal off those extra rooms. And if you doubt our story, look at this..." Talon slaps down the paper with his map of the cellar they had found the secret door in. "Unless I miss my mark, this is the layout of your cellar, right? And if it is, then you must believe our story, for how else would we have gotten into your cellar when we just arrived in this city after a week long ocean journey? So may we go take a look to make sure your wares and property are as safe as possible?"

[sblock=OOC]Okay, I did the story and the asking nicely. If he needs more convincing, someone with some diplomacy or intimidate is gonna need to step in. Also sorry I didn't take the time to dumb down Talon's speech like it should be for his normal. With that much typing, I just didn't have the time to put that effort into it currently. Got family arriving from out of state tonight. :)[/sblock]
