Adventure:Land Ho! FWBTHW (DM:H.M.Gimlord,Judge:Ozymandias79)

The group follows Gensai less out of leadership than out of a sense that the poor guy will get lost and likely killed if he strikes out on his own in this strange town. Mervin follows, last in line, still puzzling over the dagger and its odd contents, What have I got in my pocket?
[sblock=ooc]Should I roll arcana on the glowy thing?[/sblock]
[sblock=OOC]Done: 1d20+13 =30 I figured I'd not risk you rolling for yourself, given your track record ;).[/sblock][sblock=Mervin]The cylinder pulsates with magic of a natural origin. No wizard created it, but it has been shaped by those skilled in arcane arts. The material and the magic are one. The material does not contain magic. The material is the magic.

If touched, it will attack:

Attack: +7 vs. Reflex
Hit: The target is pushed one square

If pressurized with more than 30lbs of force, it will arc.
Power (Daily • Lightning): Free Action. Use this power when you hit with the weapon. The target and each creature within 2 squares of the target take 1d6 lightning damage.

Notice that even the wielder is in danger of taking damage.

If incorporated into its attuned weapon, it turns the weapon into a weapon of Myrdroon's Shard Level 4.

The attuned weapon is uniquely bonded to the cylinder, and the cylinder will not enhance any other weapon unless a ritual is performed, and a new weapon is forged. The ritual, however, is beyond your ken at this point.[/sblock]

Gensai skids to a stop at the corner where he last saw the man. The ronin gazed in the direction of the man who fled on foot. Spotting him again, he signaled to the others. "This way!"

Riardon

With the situation changing nearly to fast for him, Riardon cannot do much but run along with Gensai. Starting to breath more heavily, he asks: "What have you seen? Do we follow someone?"

"Cylinder... makes weapons more powerful... kinda neat... can't make it work...." Mervin says between pants to the group as they run.

[sblock=ooc]Does Mervin think that the dagger was attuned? If the cylinder was replaced would it work, or are we looking for a different, attuned weapon?[/sblock]

[sblock=Mervin]Mervin is pretty sure that the cylinder is attuned to the dagger and if the cylinder is placed back in the dagger, it will function as expected.[/sblock]

Noting Mervin's arcane talents before, Gensai obliged, throwing the knife pieces over his should back towards the trailing wizard. "As you command, Master Mervin. Heads up!"

[sblock=ooc] I hope HMG doesn't mind us going a little cinematic here. [/sblock]

Neither dressed, nor in proper physical shape for a chase, the regal string bean of a man stops running (if what he is doing can be called that). He turns toward Gensai, now still a half a block away, gives an exaggerated shrug, and beckons the group to follow him.

Obliging his request, Gensai and the others continue their pursuit at a more relaxed pace, upon reaching the man, they are addressed, "Good fellows," the man begins, "I apologize for my flighty behavior, but I was afraid... that is, until I recognized you," he nods in Fenwick's direction, "You do realize that the six of you are famous, having exposed that ring of thieves that's been plaguing our city for years, though I expected to see two more here." He cranes his neck behind Mervin to see if there are any others, presumably Talon and Rujah, "No matter. You see," he continues, "what frightened me was that blue crystal that fell on the street. I've only seen it once before, but I don't think we should talk about it here."

The man beckons them to follow further, and after about two blocks of walking, they come to a compound backing up on the Ulmar River, consisting of large tower-like structures adjoined by multistory buildings. Fenwick recognizes that the compound is most likely the main University complex, and his eyes brighten at the prospect of its stored knowledge. Once inside the gate, the man leads the group up a stone stoop, and into what looks like a main, administrative building, after which, he produces a key and unlocks a small conference room, lavishly furnished with upholstered chairs, several lamps, and a large table. Even a pitcher of wine and several goblets stand ready as if company is always expected in this room, "Please, have a seat." The man begins to pour himself some wine, and offers it to the others. While he's doing this, he continues where he left off, "My name is Amatalystan Aramist, but you may call me Amatali," he smiles, "That is, unless you're taking one of my classes, and then it's 'Professor Aramist'. I run this university, administratively. In my spare time, I am the Librarian, and I teach History here as well...but I digress. The crystal. Ah yes. Several years ago, a boy came into the library and started searching for books on Dwarven history and Davek script. Hand-over-fist, scroll-over-scroll, he would not rest. I'd never seen a young lad research such a boring subject so systematically. Of course, I was compelled to ask what motivated him, and that is when he produced the knife. He had seen something similar in old Hankel's forge shop, but the one the boy possessed had markings on the handle, written in Davek." he pauses dramatically and looks at the four in the room, "I helped him translate the runes, and we soon discovered, as you must also have, that the knife contained a brilliant blue gem. Of course we also learned that the thing could not be handled with bare skin, but we managed to replace the crystal into its vessel," he pauses to think and then continues, "That was the first, and last, time I saw it, but I shall never forget. The boy continued to come back, repeatedly still, to study Dwarven history, but he never brought the knife again. From what I understood, he learned that the knife belonged to a man, a dwarf, named Arkus M. Gimlord who was king of an island somewhere, here, on the continent of Avenroc. Naturally, the more he learned, the more afraid the boy grew that someone might discover his find, and attempt some harm to him in order to acquire the knife, and its magical gem. When I saw you," he nods to Gensai, "dropping the crystal, I immediately realized that the weapon had changed hands, and took you for a rogue of some kind, that is, until I recognized you, and this is where I'm confused and curious," he pauses and smiles inquisitively, "The boy's name was Master Lars Hallmaster. He's older now, and riding off to Efil with Hankel on business, but as it turns out the magistrate has put a price on his head, and here you are with his most prized possession after exposing an organized crime ring." he strokes his chin, "A curious thing indeed. You must understand that my mind is just exploding with questions, but perhaps the first is, 'How did you acquire the knife?'"

"Quite frankly, I sat on it," Mervin responds offhandedly. During the speech he takes careful pains to replace the crystal into the dagger without touching it and replaces the cap. When it is complete, he turns to Amatali and says, "We found it in the possession of the thieves ring when we searched their hideout. I believe it was our assumption that they had stolen it from the dwarf fellow you mentioned, as they seem to have also kidnapped him. Perhaps this lad you speak of as well, I've no idea. Then again, they could have all been working together. I'm afraid I am not quite sure of all the players in this little adventure at the moment."

"The knife... a spear.... Ah my mind! As soon as a focus on a memory, it seems to evaporate away," Gensai said, frustrated.

[sblock=Riardon / Fenwick]You should both remember, quite clearly, that Talon's spear had the same thing going on: it unscrewed and had a crystal inside.[/sblock]
