OOC: At this point, this group is slightly ahead, so unfortunately I must place you on hold. I don't think it will be long, though...

Maybe we can keep ourselves occupied with a little conversation... I'm sure we chatted a bit on our way to the Owl.

Nurlan is thinking about how to explain to Irene that her insistence on looting the thugs could be getting the group into hot water. No "I told you so"'s; that could just be irritating, and she'd probably just point out that everything would have gone so much smoother if they had just killed everyone, and she'd probably be right, but we'd all end up getting defensive. No, he has a subtler way to hint at the dangers of acting like robbers without actually having to accuse his comrade.

He's also thinking about how hungry he is.

I love it when PCs chat with each other...

After a few minutes sharing totally unsurprising and prbably non-controversial observations along the lines of "We should be prepared for our enemies to come looking for us tonight", "We ought to stay together unless we manage to dispose of this threat", "Those guys didn't seem too grateful about us deciding to spare their lives", and "I usually prefer not to have so much excitement before breakfast", Nurlan decides to change the subject to lighter fare. "Tell me", he asks Charlarn, "Where did you learn to play the pipes? Were you brought up in Phyrah's Church, or did you turn to it later?"

Sorry to interupt the chat. Feel free to continue as an aside, but you've caught up, and adventure awaits!

The trio finally arrives at the Tavern of the One Eyed Owl. It is a two story red-brick building with a second story balcony. In front is a 6 foot pole of wood, carved on top to resemble an owl with an eye-patch. Across the street are several large oak trees.

Upon entering, you see a dank room containing half a dozen tables, The bar stands oposite you as you enter. Behind that is a door with kitchen sounds coming out. A tall half-elf with two long blond braids stands behind the bar. To the left is a small stage and a stairway going up. Next to the stairs is a door marked "Privy." An open table provides a clear view of both doors.

Only one table is occupied, but two merchant-types sharing mugs of beer. Breakfast seems over.

Seeing no sign of our friends, Nurlan asks the bartender, "Excuse me, did you see two women here earlier? One is a halfling with short curly black hair, th eother a human with long reddish brown hair."

bartender

The question gives the bartender a start. He eyes you narrowly. Then he answers. "All I know is my ales, beers, and brandies. People are in and out too much for me to know their names or faces, as long as they pay their tab. If you want a drink, I'm ready to pour. If you want trouble, you can find it somewhere else."

Nurlan is taken aback by the hostility of the answer. "No, just that we had been planning to meet some friends here, but I don't see them."

Wait a minute, he thinks... is this guy always like this? Or is he answering because there was some trouble associated with our friends.

Turning back to Charlarn and Tenebrynn, he asks, "What do you say? Should we get something to eat and wait for them, or..." He leaves it to them to figure out how the sentence ends.

"I think we should find out where they went. This trouble might reach them too. Perhaps we can grab a few pieces of bread and eat on the way." Tenebrynn offers, worried about where Irene and Jezibel have gotten too. After the trouble that they just went through, he hopes the two of them have not already run into the guild again.

"Of course," says Nurlan quietly, pulling Tenebrynn and Charlarn into a huddle so as not to be overheard. "But I think this trouble has already reached them. How else to explain the bartender's hostility? I fear he spoke as he did because he did recognize their description, and there was some trouble here earlier, and our friends were involved."

Charlarn's face darkens, "Oh, I learned from my older sister, Vinarra. One of the few good things my family gave me. I play so I can go back some day to show them what I can do."
