both, colour maps and a line version with pictographical representations. this way I can either go get it printed in colour, or in B&W without it looking rather washed. There is always the third option which is get some maps of a remote bay (real ones) and use that... they are fun.

I've got a color printer that I only ever use to print b/w documents. If I don't print something in color, the cartrige is just going to dry up. At the same time, I'd prefer a map that's got lots of white (or at least pale) areas. Inkjet + Dark or Intense Color = Soggy mess.

Simple B/W maps. Plenty of detail. Uses the least amount of ink, takes the least amount of time to print.

I wouldn't mind color if i could print them out on a work place printer, but since I have to buy my own ink and paper I prefer to do it as cheap as possible.

I'd prefer nice full color maps. That gives me the choice of whether to print in color or black & white. Generally I even print my adventure notes in color because it makes it easy for me to see details as I'm transferring the dungeon to my tact-tiles. I realize that old style maps use less ink, but somehow they just aren't as inspiring.

To be honest, I never found color maps attractive (though they are sometimes very functional if you have to color-code things, but those are rarely things I have to print out.)

For the ones I print out, greyscale is fine. And Bourelle's and Darkfuries maps look great in greyscale.

The maps are just about the only thing that I do like in color.

Heck, I use mapping programs in part because I like doing my own maps in color.
