[Adventure] Murder Most Foul! Part 2 (Judge: EvolutionKB)

By more luck than skill, Malehan gets the lock undone in less than a minute. But when he goes to open the door, it is still firmly held shut. Looking through the very slight crack between the doors, he can see a large wooden beam barring the door from the opposite side. He knows that unbarring a door from the opposite side and without the proper tools is well beyond his mechanical talents. The beam will need to be broken or cut through, both of which will take time and make noise.

It appears that Ladoran does not want any unexpected guests if he has these types of obstacles in place. He might even have nastier surprises in store if he really does not wish to be disturbed.

"Well, it's kind of obvious that we're not specialists in lockpicking and traps, so I see two options ahead of us. We can either play it by ear and pray we can sneak in unnoticed or just force our way and get the action brought to us. I'd really prefer to fight my way in instead, since that's what I know how to do. What do you guys think?"

Knoepf takes one last scan of the area before the group makes there final decision as to what to do.

One thing is sure. Our choices as to where to go to reach him are quite limited the cleric states as he eyes the single door and I'm sure that he has other defenses as potent as the one below us (pointing to the pit). We must be careful from here on out in our chase.

While the others ent to work in the room, Vex made sure that the door to the street was closed- ALMOST all the way (enough to deter curious folk outside, while allowing an occasional survey of the street, just in case). When it became obvious that the locked door was going to be a time-consuming obstacle, she offered a few words. "Does anyone have an axe? Or can anyone step through space like an eladrin? Even with the bar in place, we might be able to open a gap for that to work..."

[sblock= OOC] Did the work-goblins leave any tools behind that might help with getting through the door (pick, ax, pry bar?) And does the door to the street open into the room, or out towards the street? [/sblock]

They took all of the sharp tools and most of the rest of the tools with them because they were concerned with protecting themselves. But, there is a hammer, a wedge, and a block and tackle in the pile.

As per the picture (hard to see, I know), the outer door to the street opens out. The inner door to the street opens into the room. There's a small 8 foot long 10 foot wide hallway (mini-foyer) that leads from the outer door to the inner door, but it is empty without any furniture.

"Ok, let's go by the front door. I'll take the lead. Vex, you'll be just behind me. If there is a trap, I'm the most likely to see it. Let's just hope there will be way around those trap." tells Malehan

[SBLOCK=OOC]With Perception +19, I can probably find the traps... but I wouldn't bet I can disarm them easily. I really think to multi-class into Rogue to get Sneak Attack and Thievery Skill.[/SBLOCK]

"Just a minute," Vex replied to Malehan's call. Moving quickly, she appropriated the left-behind hammer and wedge- it didn't take more than a few seconds to close the inner door and spike it in place with the wedge. Now anyone who wanted to interfere with their hunt would have another hurdle.

Once that was done, she moved up beside Malehan, sword in hand. She stood just off to the side, ready for him to open the door.

[sblock= OOC] Once everyone in the group is in the main (inner) room, Vex will spike the door leading from the inner room to the foyer, to impede anyone attempting to enter from the street.
How about the inner (barred) door- does that open into the room we're in, or out from it?

The barred double doors open into this room from the room or hallway behind them. So to open them, they will need to be pulled instead of pushed which is much harder to do. It's obvious that whomever designed them made them as difficult to get past as possible.

The single locked door, on the other hand, opens out of this room which means that it can be pushed or bashed in.

I've included a crude drawing of the direction of the doors if they were open.

The cleric makes a silent prayer to the lady as he prepares for the final showdown with Ladoran. As they draw closer to battle, Knoepf remembers bits and pieces of his first encounter with the foe. Friends, as we draw closer to our comfrontation with our foe, here are a couple other things I remember when I battled him the first time. Ladoran can create a power gust of wind at an instant. His attack is prolonged and caused many of my comrades to fall backwards after experiencing terrible suffering. I almost died in the initial attack. In addition, he also has the power to teleport. Whatever we do, we need to do it quick. There is no telling what else he can do. May the lady of the silver flame be with us and guide us in our quest to rid this vile one from our world!.
