(Adventure) Pest removal at unusual height and depth

"Well, were not getting paid to stand around here gawping," Jack grumbles as he unslings his shortbow. "Here, hold this," he says as he shoves his magical lantern into Reilin's hands.

Jeck nocks an arrow, takes a step around the corner and aims very carefully at the point equidistant between the rat-beast's two glowing eyes.

Attack, Shortbow: +6, 1d4 (+1d6 sneak attack, if applicable) damage.

(Attack roll 8, +6 is 14. The enemy is flat-footed, so you score a hit - but fail to do damage)

Jack's arrow hits the rat-thing, but it seems unfazed. Now alerted to the presence of intruders, the two creatures turn the around to face whoever shot the arrow.

(I assumed up to now that you keep light at a minimum - was that correct? Do you use the light now?)

Initiative rolls, please {dice=1}20{/dice}, replacing the {} with [].

Mintrik: Roll of 15, +6 = 21.
Reilin; Roll of 18 = 18
Rat-Thing: Total of 23
Lump: Total of 12

(Damn, that are some Init rolls...)

OOC: Reilin's got the light now, so that Jack could use his bow.

[dice]
Init: 20 +4 = 24!

Jack gapes at the spot where his arrow should have furrowed the skull of the rat-thing. "Neat trick, that," he comments, "I've gotta learn how to do that someday."

Before the beast can react, Jack looses another arrow, on the small chance it might actually injure the creature.

Attack, Shortbow: +6, 1d4 (+1d6?) damage. Then, drop the bow and draw his short sword.

Loskrad moves up a few steps from the rest of the group, placing himself between the rats and the others. He readies himself to attack any rat that comes within range of his sword.

(OOC)
Move 10 feet towards the rats and ready action to attack either one if they should come within his range.
Initiative = 16 + 5 = 21
Greatsword +5 2d6+4 19-20/x2
(/OOC)

Shadowlyn stays somewhat out of the creatures reach, letting her bullet fly at the nearest creature. She then orders her dog to attack, Handle Animal +2.

Initiative rolls, please [dice]

Initiative +7!!! That should be a 19 now

AttBon+5, 1d3+1dmg

Dog - AttBon+2 or +4 if he charges, 1d4+1dmg

(So, anyone want to do something about the light situation on their turn? Might be ...err... enlightening. And just for clarification - it is one extremely thin rat thing, that was clearly unaffected by Jack's arrow, and one somewhat humanoid "lump")

Guard dog - Init roll 3, +3; Total 6.

Jack - 24
Rat-Thing - 23
Mintrik - 21 (better Init modifier)
Loskrad - 21
Shadowlyn - 19
Reilin - 18
Lump - 12
Guard dog - 6

(Jack's attack roll: 3 + 6 = 9. No hit.)
Jack's second arrow flies, but misses the rat thing this time. The thin beast rushes with an eery silence towards Jack, except for the clacking of bones. Mintrik moves into a position to better see the lump, and fires a single bolt at it.
(Mintrik's attack roll: 15 + 2 = 17. Hit. 1 damage)
The bolt hits, but apparently not a vital spot. The thing twitches, but shows not much more of a reaction.

Seeing how ineffective his weapons are against the emanciated rat, Jack goes on the defensive. He hops around the creature bobbing and weaving, hoping to distract it long enough for someone with a more potent weapon to get in a hit or two.

Total Defense, +4 AC = 23 total. Then 15' movement around the rat-creature to put Jack exactly opposite his current position... With the intent of drawing an attack of opportunity.

Loskrad moves into position to attack the rat, hoping his massive weapon and formidable strength prove to be more effective against the creature.

Loskrad maneuvers into a position at the side of Jack, and thrusts his greatsword. However, he misses

(Fangor, any changes in your tactics?
Also, sorry if the code map acts somewhat odd. The code tag has some strange habits.)
