My preferences are the same as player and DM.
I prefer short adventures. However, the adventures should build up on each other. I like to have many things going on at the same time with good options in which directions to move.
Dungeon adventures should be more about killing things and taking their stuff than other enviroments. If I want a dungeon I want a classical dungeoncrawl: A weird location filled with traps, monsters, occasional puzzles, treasure and a interesting history.
A wilderness adventure should give a sense of the world and provide wilderness encounters. If it's wilderness time it's random encounter time.
A city adventure should be about the interaction with NPC's. That includes socializing, investigation and intrigue, but also the occasional battle. The occasional rampaging/pet monsters are ok, but mostly it should be humanopids. Once one strays from that path (the adventure turns to storming someones manor or clinking into the sewers) the adventure turns into a dungeon crawl.
