[Adventure] The Cannith Caper (Judge: THB)

"Well, we could rent some just to get us across the city to the station," Harressh says. "No need to bring them aboard."

[sblock=ooc]I'm in favor of that, so we can stick with those who are already mounted to travel across Sharn. Not that anything will happen to us on the way, I'm sure. ;)[/sblock]

Haltor shrugged. The coaches of the sky are a quick as the zephyr, but time is not an issue. Coin may be, for I do not recall many husbands of horses on my journey of this city.

With the group moving through the city of Sharn, time is not critical and you see a variety of people and sights. Meeting up with Rook at the train station, where the hustle and bustle of new arrivals and departures is dizzying. Haltor keeps White Eye under close control here as many people stare at the halfling.

There are various trains departing from the station with their destinations and costs. The ticket to Starilaskur is 260 gp each, although a private cart is available for 1,000 gold pieces a day. Luckily a train arriving at your destination should be leaving in a few hours.

*Nothing interesting on the way to the station, sorry ryry ;)

Lightning Rail is 2sp/mile in standard accommodations, first class will be 5 sp/mi, and for steerage is 3 cp/mi. Based on the 3e supplement Explorer's Handbook.

It's about 1300 miles to Starilaskur, so it's actually 260 gp for the travel there. It'll take a day and a half to get to your destination. That's a lot of gold...how can people afford it? Anyways, as this amounts to over 1500 gold pieces for the lot of ya (which is messed up because you can charter your own passenger cart for the same amount), we'll assume that Miranda actually gave you enough gold pieces to cover the costs. [/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]So we can just get a private cart then?

I hope she gave us enough for the return journey as well. If she didn't that's a bad sign. ;)[/sblock]

You can get a private cart, but will need to go to the counter to arrange it. She gave enough for a return trip...[/sblock]

Varak does his best to stay close to the others as they walk. The half-orc can be seen gazing up at the dizzying heights of the towers and often will stop on a bridge to look below. He stares at a group of jugglers for a moment, and investigates the smells of street vendors. The half orc gets close to the tracks of the lightning rail, watching as sparks leap from track to car, powering it on it's way.

Stepping back from the tracks, the half-orc moves to stand by Vistrathis. "I heard you talking earlier? Did you learn magic and fighting from the same person?"

When they arrive at the station, Alex looks around at the arcane device in awe. After a few minutes of quiet reverence the man speaks, "So, should we have, uh, a spokesman, or person, I guess, for the group. You know, someone who can be the face of the group?" he asks.

ooc - a private cart might be risky as well though if we draw attention to ourselves.

[sblock=OOC]I'll check my ECG at home for updated lightning rail prices.[/sblock]Haltor keeps to himself on the ride over, though he'll speak when spoken too. He seemed a little out of sorts in the city. Considering his background, Sharn was likely very much far from home in more than just distance.

At the rail station, Haltor sniffs at the conveyance. One of these cuts the Plains in twain, though it now dies at the wall of Mourning. It may be fast, but I do not trust anything that cannot be fed.

Seeing Alex's hesitation again when they come to the station, Haltor shrugs. I've cajoled, threatened, sweat-talked, and outright convinced those that should be against me to change their minds. If words will be the weapon, I wield them as sharply as the sharrash. What shall be the thrust of our cant?

[sblock=Lightning Rail Costs]
Just checked my ECG, couldn't find the costs on first glance for some reason. They are the same, nice just to reprint old source material ;). The airship costs are kind of wonky, 1gp/mi, or 17,000 per day, but the rail is 5 sp/mi (first class) or 1,000gp/day for first class... odd that it's 40-ish gold/mile for the airship charter, but only 1.4 gold per mile on the rails.

It would never make sense as a group of at least 3 PC's to ever travel via rail without chartering your own car as it'll be much cheaper that way.[/sblock]

Vistrathis smiles at remembered memories.

"Hmmm... I was taught how to wield weapons by a halfling named Garin. his wife, Carina, taught me how to channel magic. However, I was my own teacher in blending the two forms. Something the two of them would call 'cheating'!" at this, Vistrathis laughs out loud.

He was about to give reply to Alex, but when Haltor showed his word savy, he kept his mouth shut. It is better keep a closed mouth and seem stupid, then to open your mouth and prove it!
