Vistrathis, also not sensing any deception from the half-elf, moves to untie his bonds. As he does so, he looks up at Varak with a look of confusion and concern.

"Now what kind of rescuers would we be if our newly rescued and potential ally were immediately made into battle fodder? Would you be suggesting the same if this man were neither a half-elf or a man? If he were, instead, a human female, would you automatically push her in front of us? I would surely hope you wouldn't jump to those means of protection in either situation. If you feel that I have not done a satisfactory job in protecting this group, simply say so and suggest something that I might do to better eliminate the harm that may come to you in the midst of battle and I will gladly take your opinions and tactical knowledge into consideration, but do not suggest using even a prisoner as a shield, let alone someone we have just rescued, as I find that deeply insulting and extremely distasteful. This man has done nothing, yet, to warrant any mistreatment, and until we gain some form of knowledge that proves that he plans to or already has performed some kind of deceit, I will ask you to trust this man."

Turning back to Varis, the gith helps the half-elf to his feet

Harressh snorts. "He may not have done anything to prove himself an enemy yet, but neither has he done anything to prove himself a friend. And his story is ridiculous. Kidnapped and dragged here, without even a clue as to why?" The dragonborn shakes his head.

"But all right, Vistrathis. We'll give him a chance to prove himself a friend. But I'll be keeping an eye on him, and I suggest you do likewise. You're entirely too quick to trust. He may not be in league with those goblins, but who knows how many parties might be here seeking the same thing we are?"

He turns to the half-elf. "Welcome to our group, Varis... for now. Betray us, and you'll regret it." He flashes a grin filled with sharp teeth.
