[Adventure] The Cannith Caper (Judge: THB)

Harressh digs a rope out of his pack. "Huh," he grunts. "Anyone notice any tattoos or white lion markings on the goblins out front?"

He lowers the rope over the side.

ooc: hey, I can't find the Use Rope skill on my sheet, what happened to it? :)

Varis d'Lyrandar , Half-Elf Bard 4

Varis feels a little bit lost, as the others seem to know what to expect from each other. Finally he asks: "Can I do anything to help?"

Vistrathis goes over the body once more, just to make sure there aren't any valuables to liberate from the goblin (who obviously had no use for valuables at this time), and then proceeds to climb up the rope with Harressh's help.

Perception check of 18 to check for valuables; Athletics check of 12 to climb up the rope. See rolls here.[/sblock]

The corpse has no valuables on it, likely looted (if it had anything) before it was tossed down. The group continues down the natural passage.

At the end of the natural tunnel, a hole is smashed in the wall. Beyond it is a room finely wrought of white stone with gray-green veins and flecks. A large arcane contraption of metal and stone stands in the center of the room. It is about 7 feet high; levers project from it, runes shine on its surface, and a large purple crystal glows at its apex. Standing about the room are humanoid creatures like warforged. Some are incomplete or worn with time, while others have fared better. Most of those are wide-framed models that resemble the burliest human. One appears to have a sheathe of flesh that has been cut or torn away in places, revealing inner workings that are thinner than those of a normal warforged.

Not sure of order, I believe Varak was sneaking ahead, he can provide this info and a fairly detailed layout of the room (see attached map)

The creatures are unmoving and inert. The gem is providing bright illumination in the room.

Varak reports what he found. The arcane device, the inert warforged creatures, the crystal. "It's a little bit creepy in there, all those 'forged like statues. Maybe the device has somthing to do with it. Not my specialty though." He leads the others into the room, and then skirts the wall around the right side of the room waiting to see what the arcane minded can figure out.

New to the group, Varis gives the others time to make their assumptions first.

As Varak steps foot in the room, the eyes of the inert constructs glow with the same purple color as the crystal at the top of the strange device. They lurch to life.

...and we'll stop right there. I don't have time for an update right now, but there I'll get to it tomorrow[/sblock]

Stepping into the room, Vistrathis is amazed at the inert warforged standing around the room and he gazes in wonder at the large contraption in the center. When the warforged lurch to life, he hurriedly tries to determine exactly what this device is and how to turn it off.

[sblock=ooc]Vistrathis rolls a 27 Arcana in an attempt to determine what the device is and how to use it or keep it from activating. [/sblock]

The enemies lurch to life as the device crackles with arcane energy. One of the larger warforged mutters "Simulation begun, testing parameters, engage targets" in a monotone voice.

Everyone goes first. Would you guys prefer a more free-formed Initiative style? I.e. the common Mal's Rules method. I'm indifferent. Regardless you all go first.

Terrain: Rubble on the floor is difficult terrain

Haltor; Vist, Alex, Harresh, Varak, enemies (1d20+6=17, 1d20+6=10, 1d20+4=21, 1d20+4=23, 1d20+8=24, 1d20+5=10) <- I rolled for Alex instead of Varis, still go first[/sblock]
