(Adventure) The Haunted Halls of Stonepike

"Lead the way, then, friend. I'll be right beside yer."

Rurik fixed his rheumy dwarven eyes upon Ishmael, a look of trust and compassion upon his face. Hefting his weapon once more for emphasis, Rurik waited for Ishmael and the others to set out, and then followed them.

"'n me 's well, no doubt," Sturm concurs. Then, turning to the Stonepike guardsmen: "But if'n ye catch this beastly wag, ye best holler fer us, as we di'n't come here'n miss on no action."

He keeps his scythe and the ready, stretching his shoulders impatiently.

Aranel said:
"Ever inspected any treasuries in your time Thurgan?"

"Not yet, though t' thought crossed me a time 'er two," Thurgan replied just as quietly. To the others, "Plan sounds good, more groups mean more chances to find the other beasties. You want'n Aranel and me up through the crack as well?"

OoC:thraine, Nim???

The Captain listens to Sir Ishmael ontently, as well as to the comments of the other Companions. Waving up 2 of his men, he indicated that they had short signal horns. Taking one from another guard, he passed it over t Ishmael ' Three blats of this if'n we sights the beast sound good? I shall set a quartet of guards at the Crypts as well as the workshop. I shall take a group to the Forges. Good hunting to you Good Folke.'

With that, the Captain leads his group off, and the othetr two groups of guards head for their assigned areas.

OoC:Where do you folks want to check first?

OOC: hee hee you caught me pulling medieval-esque words out of a hat. in my defense, at least the dwarves understood what Sir Ish said :)

"Amen, Captain" Sir Ishmael took the horn from him and nodded in appreciation.

The Deep Halfling turned to his comrades and informed them of the two paths they could tread in this investigation. "Companions, I hesitate to seperate us into vulnerability, but we must do what we can in haste.

Thurgan and Aranel wish to search the cleft in the crypts for a trail. This seems a reasonable mission. Should we wait below to assist them? or whilst they examine those cramped quarters, should we investigate those chambers near the workshop? Perhaps we can meet after these two searches then move as one group to the chambers near the mines.

Alternatively, we can wait below the cleft for Thurgan and Aranel, then move in our searches as one party. We only have one horn, after all. What say thee? Thurgan, Aranel, wouldst thou needst us to await your return below the cleft?"
Sir Ishmael spoke with but a hint of nervousness. He was anxious to begin hunting, but this issue had to be answered. Would they sacrifice haste for caution?

If Thurgan and Aranel wanted to venture off away from the two other dwarves and himself, he would offer them the horn. They were only two against the beast after all, and whilst they were competent warriors, they could not compare to the destruction of Demonbane and Deathscythe as of yet.

"'ere's plenty o' chance we won't be seein' those two again if'n they head up, so waitin's out. That horn'll echo plenty if they have the chance'n use it," he turns toward Aranel and Thurgan, "'n I trust ye can keep yerselves alive 'n fightin' long enough what we can rush back 'n finish tha' beastie off?"

Sturm will defer to Ishmael's judgment in the case of any argument, of course, because arguments are boring, and he wants to waste no time with 'em.

"I'm thinkin' me and Aranel go up there 'n have a look around, then lean down and tell ya what we see. That way you move on the ground the same direction we're 'xporin' inna crack. Then we'll be cuttin' off both escape paths if there's other cracks. Think that'll work?" Thurgan asked.

Aranel turned her delighted grin into a smile. "Excellent. Thurgan and myself shall examine the world above...or is it between?" she half-asked herself. "Ne'erles, you lot had better be able to get up into that place when we start screaming or you'll be searching for those bloody creatures minus your two most.." she seemed at loss for a word and waved her hand to indicate herself and Thurgan.

"...most...delightful..." she paused again. "Never mind. Just don't put anything nasty on my grave." she added brightly heading back towards the crypt and pulling out her rope, one of her handcrossbows and checking to see if it were loaded before tying the rope to thetail end of the bolt.

"Thurgan, you see in the dark better than I, come here and tell me where to shoot." she added in a near overly cheerful voice.

Once he was close she added in a mutter: "Th' thought is more'n enough. What 'bout you'n me go into a little side-buisness once this is over maybe? There's sme lovely treasuries in the city so I heard." She added in a low mutter.

Not to mention the treasure vault here. Please by the lord of luck and pilfering let there be a crack in the vault's ceiling. Even if it were only big enough to eyeball the treasure.

She couldn't just pass by a treasury and not even look at the contents. She had her professional reputation back home to run from and think of. An eyeful of 'glinty' as these dwarves put it would help sooth her nerves and mind.

"Alrighty, let's ha' a look," Thurgan said, eying the crevase and looking for any other way up. Thurgan will aim the bolt as well if he's needed.

"Up we go," Thurgan added. "As far as after, there's a chance we ken do some work. I'm still looking ta open a shop an' be m'own smith back in town. Though I'll always pro'ly be up fer some 'adventure'. 'Course we gotta kill us 'er beastie 'fer anythin' like that happens."
