(Adventure) The Island of Varras'zul (Manzanita Judging) (Concluded)

"Scun, would you please get over here, I need you to help me get Mona away from there. Would you stand... there. I'm going to cast a spell on you.", Nezrak says while pointing at a point on the firm ground near him (somewhere where he walked to be sure it's firm).

"And the quicksand starts here by the way, so please don't bump at me..."

Assuming Scun agrees and gets anywhere near him, Nezrak will cast Enlarge Person at Scun.

OOC: That should help a little, since Scun should be able to reach quite far after the spell. How far away is (supposed) Mona from the edge of the quicksand?

Scun moves very carefully up near Rillian. He gets out his fishing net from his backpack and holds one end, tossing the other to Mona.

/ooc Just want to remind everyone that Enlarge Person increases the size of the gear, in proportion to doubling the height of the person. There is a very good chance that the enlarged net will cover multiple squares.

Rasereit has followed the rest of the party to the site of the quicksand. He is very cautious as he walks around, but he is also confident in his dwarven stability to hold him up. Feeling somewhat useless in the situation, he mostly squirms worriedly, looking around for enemies or something to do. He looks in particular for a long branch of any sort.

ooc: even without enlargement, the net is 25 square feet. After enlargement, it's probably double that.

ooc2: Scun: and by Rillian, I'm assuming you mean Nezrak. Scun still can't see Mona, Rillian nor Ogrin.

Nezrak spole the words to the transmutation, scattered powdered iron into the air then channeled the spell's power unto Scun. Scun rapidly increased in size until he was double his height and eight times his weight. Towering above the rest of the party, Scun took out his net and cast it over the quicksand.

The net that Scun threw covered a good part of the quicksand's surface area. It stayed on the surface though and it did not sink as fast as Mona did. A close inspection revealed that Mona hadn't grabbed it yet. Perhaps she was too far below to even hear them... or she had already drowned.

Rillian:
Some time after Nezrak's droning incantation rang in the distance, a net fell over Rillian and the rest of the quicksand. It seemed too large to be carried by anything human.

Rasereit: Rasereit found that there was a lack of vegetation in the immediate area. He remembered seeing some undergrowth a while back, when they had just entered the marsh. However, in the area of the ruins, nothing seemed to grow... Perhaps if he searched farther out, he could find what he sought.

Rillian grabs onto the net. "I hope one of you guys is holding this net! Nezrak, if that was you chanting....I think Ogrin is on the other side of the quicksand...I saw a glint over there. I'm gonna pull myself over to where Mona fell in, and look for her. Please hold tight."

/ooc Rillian will attempt to pull himself thru the quicksand, using the net, to the lights. There he will "fish" for Mona using one free hand and his feet, but maintaining hold of the net.

"I suppose you should wait until Rillian tells you to fish them out.", Nezrak says to Scun.

"My light spell won't last for long, if anybody has a torch, it might be a good idea to light it.", he continues, this time to everyone.

OOC: Nezrak has Eschew Materials, so no powder-tossing, but that's a minor detail. :p

"Ah'm doin' no good jus' standin' here, Ah'll be right back!" Rasereit stomps off to the nearest vegetation, attempting to stay within earshot, searching for a suitable branch with which to stick into the quicksand.

Rillian pulled himself into Scun's view. The ogre-sized half-orc saw the human search the quicksand with his free hand and foot. After what seemed like eons of waiting, Rillian's strong arm pulled out a choking and gasping Mona. She was weakened by her struggles but she was very much alive.

"Get... my kinsman..." she gasped as Rillian dragged her free of the mire.

Then the lights went out.

Ogrin:
Try as he might, Ogrin couldn't push himself free of the quicksand that enveloped him. T'was like the days of old, when his captor's enchantment compelled his loyalty against his will. This was a physical entrapment, however, and this time... he had allies that were searching for him.

Whilst submerged, the halfling heard above him the muffled cries of people somewhere above him. Time was running out. His lungs and muscles burned for air that he couldn't have.

Rasereit:
Searching about for a piece of vegatation, Rasereit tread the marshes carefully. He wasn't sure of where he was, but at least he had the lights to guide him.

Then the lights went out. Lost but not blind, he continued his search. He stopped just short of the quicksand, his lore of the wilderness warning him ere he stepped unto danger. That was when he found an object not native to the swamp: a child-sized rapier.

Whilst examining the weapon, the dwarf spied a series of bubbles bursting from the area of quicksand in front of him.
