(Adventure) The Island of Varras'zul (Manzanita Judging) (Concluded)

"Aaaargh! Help! I'm sinki-" The scream is cut off by a gurgling.

OOC:
I try to throw my rapier (held in hand) back where I came from so the others can find approximately where I went under. Other than that, lay still to avoid sinking further - swim in panic if I am submerged again.

At the sound of the cry, Rillian tries to determine its direction and hurry towards it.

"Did you hear that, it sounded like Ogrin!" he says as he moves.

Ogrin's call for help pierced the mist and reached his comrades. What he was saying was not at all clear to anyone in the party, but his tone was cause enough for alarm.

Rillian acted first, stumbling through shadow, rain and mist to reach the Halfling.

Mona took some time to react, her movements jarred by the urgency of the situation. "We have to help him!" She said, more to herself than to the party.

Ogrin:
Scant seconds passed after Ogrin let out his message and threw his rapier to where he thought was dry land. His senses had always been a little duller than some, so he hoped that he was correct. After a few more fleeting moments, the quicksand closed above his head.

It was all up to his friends now.

Rillian
Charging to the rescue without light in a misty, rainy darkness was not the best strategy as he would soon find out.

His human eyes almost used to the darkness, he spotted a glint in the distance. In his approach, he ran into a deep soggy mass of earth. The quicksand swiftly pulled him deeper into its grasp. In no time, he was chest deep in the mire.

Quick thinking saved him from sinking further. He stopped his struggles and slowed the sinking to a crawl.

"HELP...Um I think I figured out what happened to Ogrin. There's quicksand! Someone get a rope, and please, hurry!"

/ooc other than talking, Rillian will continue to stay as still as possible. If anyone asks, Rillian will talk, carefully, to lead them to him.

The rest of the party heard Rillian's voice though Rasereit was not able to understand exactly what he was saying. Scun, Nezrak and Mona understood him more or less with clarity.

Mona started to make her way to Rillian, bringing the party's light source with her. She made slow progress, however, due to her size and the nature of the terrain.

Ogrin:
Ogrin resurfaced after spending a few moments in the clutches of the quicksand. He heard voices speaking. He recognized one as Scun but the half-orc seemed far away. He could not understand what Scun was saying but he guessed that Scun was asking about his location.

Closer yet unseen was the voice of Rillian, who was calling for the rest of the party to approach in haste. It seemed that the human was also ensnared.

His own situation was becoming more dire as time passed. If he was once again engulfed by the bog, then he wasn't sure if he could be able to get out.

ooc: I think your armor check penalty entry is erroneous.

Rillian:
Rillian managed to stay afloat. He was not as encumbered as Ogrin was. He saw a light through the mist and approach him.

OOC: Oops. I first added a chain shirt, but changed it and must have forgotten to reduce the ACP. Fixed now, thanks.

"Quicksand!" Ogrin yells, "Don't fall in!" The shout is followed by a number of expletives, probably ending in another gagged cry.

OOC: I will carefully get rid of the backpack if it is dragging me down.

Rillian:
Ogrin's voice seemed to come from a different end of the quicksand's area. Perhaps he was on a different side of the quicksand.

Ogrin:
Ogrin's head descended beneath the surface once more. Struggle as he could, he couldn't seem to breech the surface of the quicksand.

ooc: the backpack is fine. your armor is your main problem.

Ogrin's yell was heard by all... and it came a little bit to the right of where they heard Rillian's voice.

"There he is! I think that's Rillian!" exclaimed Mona, who was on the forefront of the search party. No one else could see what she was referring to because of the mist.

Soon after moments after Mona spoke, she fell into quicksand. The light immediately went out and the area was once again wrapped in shadow.

"Help!" cried a hapless Mona before her head disappeared beneath the depths of the quicksand. Unlike the other two, she had not the sense to be still. She thrashed desperately in an attempt to be free of the quagmire and so, sunk even quicker.

Nezrak follows Mona and others, and when Mona sinks to the quicksand, and the light she was holding disappears, he proceeds to cast Dancing Lights and sends the lights to where Mona was. "I'm not liking the way this is turning out. Does anybody have rope? And if you don't, then try to be careful, I have an idea. Scun, you're the strongest and probably largest of us, I'm going to need your help when we find out where our friends have sunk."

Nezrak will carefully walk in to direction of where Mona was (and where he sends the lights).

With Nezrak's lights illuminating where Mona fell, Nezrak could see that there was a slight disturbance in the quicksand from her sinking. He also found that he was at the tip of the quicksand's area. If Mona were not in front and fell, he might've not even seen the quicksand because it looked so much like solid ground.

There was little else of significance around the area.

Rillian:
Rillian saw Mona fall and sink into the quicksand along with her light source. Soon after the cleric was ensnared, the voice of Nezrak pierced through the mist. Some time later, 4 floating motes of magelight flitted above her location soon after she fell.

Rillian could see little else around him besides bog and fog, but at least, the light gave him better visibility than what he could see otherwise.
