(Adventure) The Island of Varras'zul (Manzanita Judging) (Concluded)

/ooc I jusst want to make sure I read the post correctly nimisgod, you said that... (snip)

OOC: Well, since Rillian Trillnason has no intensive knowledge of the wilderness (ie ranks in Survival or Knowledge: Nature), that assumption is a safe one to make for your character. What I did mean however was that the undergrowth was indeed beginning to recede as you progressed deeper into the jungle.

Sorry about any confusion.

"I see that Rasereit, Scun and Nezrak are moving on or, at least, looking for a more defensible campsite. I shall provide illumination to hasten our journey inwards." Mona took off her pack and pulled out a hooded lantern. A few moments later, the lantern was equiped with oil and lit. The illumination chased the darkness away from their immediate surroundings (30 feet of illumination centered on Mona and 60 feet of shadowy illumination farther off).

Once again, it was only Nezrak who saw that their Huge pursuer was with them still. His elven eyesight allowed him to perceive objects better and farther off than any in the party in this light.

Some 50 feet up and 100 feet away from the party, the monstrous arachnid stood stock still in its observation of its prey. That Nezrak even saw the creature this far off was a minor miracle. Its striped furry hide allowed it to blend well with its surroundings.

"Is everyone prepared to go?" Mona asked as she shouldered the straps of her backpack.

Whilst she prepared the light, Rasereit and Ogrin had already began to clear a path for the party. Likewise Scun and the remainder of the party girded themselves for the continuation of their arduous trek.

Nezrak stared at the darkness, in the direction of their pursuer. *Clever little bastard, aren't you. A little bit too clever I fear.*

"That thing is still following us.", he said to others while turning to walk. "Let's get going, I don't want to fight it here if at all possible."

Rillian falls back in formation to be closer to Nezrak, and asks "Could you describe the creature in more detail for me? Things like coloration, number of limbs, any other features I could look for, I really dont want it to get the jump on us like that snake, and the spiders."

once Nezrak has finished his description, Rillian will return to his earlier position in the marching order.

Nezrak shook his head. "Can't really tell, I couldn't see it clearly. But it's big and has too damn many eyes, so I'd bet my money on it being a big spider. A really big spider. And it seems to be able to climb too."

Mona's lantern outlasted the night.

When dawn came, she called for a halt so that she could engage in her daily communion with her deity. Installing her tent hurriedly but efficiently, she went inside to pray in solitude.

Those learned of the wilding ways learned with a quick observation of the area that they were nearing the end of the jungle. The vegetation was less thick here and smaller. The ground was becoming muddier and muddier, a sign of the terrain type to come.

A chill drizzle fell upon them on the onset of that grey sunrise. It would continue to rain until the day's end and perhaps, beyond that.

Those who looked for the signs of their pursuer in the daylight found very few traces of its presence (except perhaps if they ventured farther away from the camp). Whatever it was, it kept away from them with the coming of day.

With the greenery diminished and grey light from above, they could better see their surroundings than before. If they were looking for a place to rest, then this would be a good opportunity to do so.

Scun relaxes as they emerge out of the darkness and the vegetation into the morning sun. "I advise that we camp here. After some rest and food we will be much better able to travel on. I'd like to take first watch and get it over with if that's okay with you guys."

With the desire of not sleeping in the mud, Rillian gathers a number of the larger leaves from the jungle plants for everyone. Handing these around, he attempts to create a small dry spot for his rest. Eventually realizing the futility of his quest, Rillian settles down to sleep with whatever he has.

"Wake me when my turn at watch comes up. Or if any problems come up."
