(Adventure) The Island of Varras'zul (Manzanita Judging) (Concluded)

Ogrin walked carefully up to the door and attempted to open it. When he stepped too close to the door, a gout of flame erupted from the keyhole. He was just barely able to leap to safety before it lightly singed his clothing. It died down a second after eruption.

A few seconds after he began to work on that lock, there was another audible click. The trap had reset, he had to abandon his position beside the lock to avoid another gout of flame.

Working on the lock would be extremely difficult and painful unless they disabled that trap first. They could not keep dodging the trap while doing such delicate work.

Or else, they could bash down the metal door.

Nezrak: [sblock] Nezrak realized that the gout of flame was an advanced burning hands spell, modified for lethality.[/sblock]

Nezrak groans. "Somebody really didn't want people to get in there. Which means that we're going there no matter what, of course. The question just is, how? I'm pretty sure we could hammer the door down eventually, but I'm not sure if we would survive long enough to do that. I could turn somebody large and temporarily enchant a weapon, but it would be damn risky. Anyway, I think we should perhaps leave the door alone for now, until we get Rasereit back in consciusness.", he says.

"Aye. Let's see what we can find about about the huge doors after the dwarf is awake."

Ogrin checks for any rubble that might be used to make a small fire. Our light reserves are going awfully low as well, I suspect.

The shelves are made of stone. Except for the books, most of what could rot away has done so. The texts might've been magicked for longevity, but it would appear that these wards have ceased with time's passing.

Except for the books, there is nothing combustible in these ruins.

OOG: I take it that the group is amenable for resting 'till Scun gets his spells back?

OOC: Seems like so. How close did Ogrin get before the trap triggered? 5ft? 10ft? And how long did it take the trap to reset? 1 round or more? We might get to hit the door beyond the trigger range, if I cast Englarge Person at someone. Maybe. :P

oog: the trap activated when Ogrin was about 3-5 feet away from the door. The gout of flame blast forth in a 15 ft-cone shaped burst.

It took a round or so for the trap to reset.

oog2: Making the assumption that the party is resting in the room beside the trapped door.

oog3: According to Ogrin's own observations and knowledge of traps, this one is probably a proximity triggered trap. Nezrak's idea has a good chance of working.

Mona placed her lantern in the center of the room as usual and set up her tent nearby. "This is my last oil flask" she said. "I hope that we don't have to stay here for much longer." Then she entered her tent, telling the party to tell her when her watch was up.

The hours passed with uneventfully, save for the changing of the watch. After six more hours, Scun made his daily meditations and received the fruits of his prayers.

oog4: if you haven't removed the rations for day 5, then do so now.

Nezrak will ask Mona, and is she's reluctant, Scun, to prepare Comprehend Languages to make sure he undestood the runes in the pedestal even relatively correctly, and to gather some meaning of what the books they found are.

"I think that the only places left are behind those two doors. And from what I gather, they will hopefully just be maybe a room or two behind them. I can prepare few light spells, which should be enough for us to throughly search those rooms, and Scun and Rasereit can see in the dark and take the watches if we need to stay here longer.", Nezrak says.

OOC: More questions. Can Nezrak change prepared spells or has it been too little time from previous rest (might be)? And do we heal 2 hit points?
