(Adventure) The Island of Varras'zul (Manzanita Judging) (Concluded)

oog: Ok, spells prepared. I assumed it was okay to get rid of my 1 dex damage remaining during this rest period. If I am wrong, let me know.

oog: Scun didn't rest for a full 8 hours without interruption (you had to pray for spells for an hour and I assume that requires concentration). So, Scun won't be getting that dex point back just yet.

If you guys choose to rest for two more hours, I guess I'll allow most of you to heal. Though since Mona was probably resting, you guys don't get the benefits of long-term care. If Nezrak chooses to rest for the whole 8 hours, he can prepare new spells for the day.

wierd thing about the resting rules is that you only need to rest for 8 hours to recover. So instead of resting for a day and a night, could you not just rest for all 24 hours to receive the benefits x3?

"I hope so, too. But you never really know what you might find in dark places such as these"

Mona's willing to prepare Comprehend Languages for the party, though she doesn't enjoy the thought of touching the darkness producing stone.

Two more hours pass.

When Mona came out of her tent, she spent some healing magick upon the prone Rasereit, bringing him back to consciousness [healed 10].

oog: everybody recovers 2hp and nezrak gets back 1 point of dex.

Code:
Scun [19/19, 1 dex damage]
Ogrin [16/17]
Rasereit [4/27]
Nezrak [5/9, 2 dex damage]
Mona
Rillian [6/13]

After the group has done resting, Nezrak will address Scun and ask if he could cast Mending at the fragile book they found, after he has possibly healed Rasereit. "I would like to get the books salvaged and the message in the pedestal understood before we start bringing down the door.", he says. "Then I can turn you and Rasereit giant-sized, and you can hopefully bash down the door from a safe distance.

OOC: Nezrak will trance for four hours first, and then take a half-watch while resting, since he doesn't actually have to trance to rest the remaining four hours. And those healing rules get even more silly, when you consider that Elves only need to rest for four hours to heal...

After Scun's orison, Nezrak found the third book was legible enough to read though barely incomprehensible in content. The writhing, flowing script was in Draconic.

This was a collection of notes about various experiments on different creatures, simply labeled "Nakros Elistirex". The methods and findings scribed therein were ghastly to behold, passing through the realm of academic research and well into macabre torture.

Little of the information was relevant to the situation at hand, save for the revelation of the cages' use. Like the rest of the ancient books, this one would fetch a high price when sold to the right buyer... though that buyer would probably be someone who plumbs the depths of the Dark Arts.

Ogrin spends the time keeping watch.

OOC: Ignore my rambling about healing, I was reading the 3.0 PHB. 3.5 is a bit ambigous in this regard, though I would still interpret "a full nights rest" as something that can only occur once per day.

"How surprising...", Nezrak mumbles after he's checked the book. He decides not to ask Mona to try to decipher the last book after all... "Mona, I'd think now would be a good time to take a look at those runes in the pedestal. I'll go with you. With luck - well, or without luck, take your pick - I missed something important that might help us. Let's start working on the trapped door after that."
