(Adventure) The Island of Varras'zul (Manzanita Judging) (Concluded)

Mona remained in the room, even several days later. A hint of worry crept into the hearts of those concerned for her safety, although the guards to her quarters did say that she was getting food everyday.

By this time, even Ogrin and Scun have re-entered consciousness again. The effects of the poison had largely left everyone's systems, though some of the party still felt soreness in their limbs.

By the night of the fourth day of their trip, Mona finally exited the study room. She gathered the party in a meeting, along with more important members of the Winder.

Mona looked very tired and pale. It looked as if she had not slept very much during those four days. She did not look at all weakened, however. In fact, she looked stronger of will and of purpose. No more was she the reluctant halfling cleric in the Red Dragon Inn, but a confident, assertive woman.

"Greetings, gentlemen. I have finally finished perusal of the tome that we've risked so much to find. Inside, I have found exactly what I've been seeking since the start of our journey. Upon our return to Orussus, I can finally go to Raven's Bridge with my head held high, knowing that I have served my order well."

She smiled at the party of adventurers who had risked so much for her, her eyes finally resting on Ogrin. "It is only thanks to you that I was able to make it this far. You have a friend in me and my order. There is, of course, the matter of a reward."

"As per our agreement, everything you've found in that place is yours to keep save for this tome. There is also the matter of gold." She hands out one bag of gold to each party member. "Here is the amount as promised, 50 pieces of gold"

"Have you any questions to ask me? If there are none, we can declare this meeting ended."

"Er, ahem... Ah've got a question. Wha', exactly, is in that book o' yers? Ah suppose, if ye can't tell meh, tha's fine, Ah got to admit, though, Ah'm a bit curious. So, eh...?" The usually brash and bold dwarf looks a tad green in the cheeks, and he looks to the ground as he makes his request.

Scun looks on, smiling.

I am glad these people were able to save me. The last thing I remember is a dire fight with that spider.

"Mona what did the spider mean by its final words? It suggested that we have loosed something upon the world? We need to know what you learned from the book."

"I would rather not utter the contents of this book, other than to say that I have found the cure I have mentioned previously. This is of course, for my own safety as well as the safety of those on this table. Some of us have witness first-hand the power of a few written words..." She did not sound angry at the dwarf, but at the same time, it did not seem like she had completely forgiven him for his slight.

Turning to Rillian, she paused for a short moment then answered him "I am uncertain as to the exact meaning of those words.

But what of them? That creature may just be maddened by rage or by pain. Are we to trust the words of so monstrous a foe? Did it not try to bite your heads off? Did it not attack us?

I think that its words are of little consequence. We certainly released nothing from that place that did not survive your weapon skills"
She was of course, referring to the gigantic skeleton creature. "And that giant door is still closed... unless you did anything else to the pedestal where the book lay?"

"Thank you.", Nezrak says as he receives the bag of gold.

"Well there was the swarm...", Nezrak starts but then changes the subject slightly. "It's not really a matter of whether we believe the creature, it's just the matter that It didn't really seem like the one that actually talked. Though it might have been some ancient backup trap to scare people, cast at the monster by the previous owner of the place.", he continues and shrugs. "Well, we'll probably never know."

Scun speaks. "Got nothing to say except that I am glad we all made it out alive and got what we came for. It'll be good to get back to town and relax a bit."

When the discussion mentions of the stone doors, Ogrin shuffles his feet and avoids looking Razh and Rillian in the eyes... "Well, ah, um... there is that small matter of the collapsing floor...

"Anyway, I'm just glad we're off that accursed Island. Even if we released something, it might not know how to swim. The further away from it we are, the better.

"By the way, anyone else than me that thinks the crew has been a bit... quirky on the ride home? Captain, I hope this is just sailors superstitions and nothing more sinister?"

ooc: Sense Motive roll, is this Mona (radical personality shifts are unusual to say the least)? If it is, has she been tricking us, is she now "coning" us?
