Adventure: The Power of Knowledge (DM: Fragsie, Judge: TwoHeadsBarking)

[sblock=Activity]I've noticed Andrec's been doing most of the talking since entering the library. I'm going to wait a day or so before responding, in case someone else want to get involved. [/sblock]

//Kalidrev, do you want to make an aid another check for that? Even if you have +0 in the skill that's still a 50% change of a +2 to the result.//

Actually, that's not true anymore. The new errata has changed the way that Aid Another works. The DC is no longer 10, but rather 10 + 1/2 the level of the character I'm trying to assist. Failure nets the target of Aid Another a -1 penalty to his check. Because of this, I'm still mulling over whether or not to make an aid another check. I'll post something by the end of the day on this. [/sblock]

OOC: So this chamber is where Skalisss will spend his 6 hours pouring over scrolls and texts applying his Religion check...

"Let usss look for cluesss here then review these documentsss" proposes Skalisss. "Thisss isss going to take sssome time" he observes.

//Research on Runes
result = 23

DC15 – The runes do indeed bare resemblance to the supernal script in their basic shape as others have suggested, but they are corrupted beyond translation. Assuming that this corruption could be related to Herebos or Thartharus you study scripts tied to those realms but cannot find a link to tie them to the runes.

DC18 – The runes in their formation contain complex supernal syllables that resemble the written form of the Words of Creation; they are very powerful indeed and most likely come from the gods or a source of equal power.

DC20 – The rune’s corruption is aberrant in its nature; they draw their power from That Which is Far. These are Words of Creation that originate from that mad realm that exists beyond the Twelve’s influence.

DC23 – You find a decrepit tome entitled 'The Dream Quest; and languages therein discovered' by H. P. Adorskill, that contains illuminations that could very well be the exact runes you are looking for and names them 'The Words of Azathoth'. Though the ancient Allarian text is almost entirely lost to the ravages of time you garner enough information to translate the runes as the concepts of Wit, Brawn, Glamour, Grace, Voice and Metabolism.
Below is an except from that tome that stood out to you and was clearly legible;

"[O]utside the ordered universe [is] that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes."

[sblock=Fragsie ONLY (possible spoiler)] Boy, that's a subtle blatant reference stealing of Call of C'thulu material, lol. I mean, I thought the H. P. <lastname> was pretty subtle in collusion with "That Which is Far", but you didn't even try to mask Azathoth. To bad I can't use this out of character information to know not to kill the drummers and fluters, lol ;) [/sblock]

"Oooo, take a look at thisss..." Skalisss says to the others as he recounts what he found in the 'The Dream Quest; and languages therein discovered'. He is careful not to speak the name of the Daemon sultan aloud, fearing consequences.

He explains that the runes are corrupted supernal script that resemble the written form of the Words of Creation. The corruption is aberrant in its nature; they draw their power from That Which is Far. These are Words of Creation that originate from that mad realm that exists beyond the Twelve’s influence.

[sblock=OOC]I'm going to be away from tomorrow until thursday, sorry I haven't given you guys more notice, but it's been a last minute thing.
While I'm away you could use the time to discuss all the information you already have and what your next move is going to be when you leave the library (it'll be late at night by the time your research is completed), and decide who's going to be heading up the research on the Census (history).
Brother Shane is still with you so if any of you can access his character sheet (which hasn't been transferred to the new wiki) feel free to npc him if his skills can help out.[/sblock]
