Our ongoing investigation is coming to a head, and with this name we may be closer than we had realized. Growl, please pick up our captive. Skalisss, would you see to the Ambassador's accommodations, according to his wishes. I will arrange for cleanup to be sent for the rest of this mess," so saying, Andrec gestures at the corpses.

"Might I direct you to the Temple Ambasssador? It will be sssafe" asks Skalisss. "Besidesss, you will be able to sssee the handiwork of thisss madman for yourssself as many of the victimsss are there. Or perhapsss sssomewhere elssse of your choosssing?"

Skalisss escorts the Ambassador to the desitnation of his choise and returns immediately to resume the chase.

"Yes, the temple will do fine. Let me gather up my people, and we'll head off."

Once at the temple, before letting Skalisss return to his allies, Glasston tells him, "If there is anything I can do to help, let me know. And come see me when this is all over. I'd like to reward you properly for your service."

Andrec will ask Growl to take their new best friend to the city Gaol, and wait with her there. He will then put in a report with his superiors of everything that has happened to this point, including comments on the exemplary service of Growl & Skalisss, and the personal risk taken by Mikara. He will then arrange for the city morgue to obtain the bodies of the thugs here, and have the city send out an assessor to judge the damage done to the Ambassador's study, and determine if the city is responsible for repairs.

Having done that, Andrec will meet up with Skalisss and head down to where Growl has the prisoner.

Andrec masterfully navigates the mess of bureaucracy, accomplishing all he set out to in a timely manner.

By the time you reconvene at the jail, the woman has started to come to. She is still plenty groggy, but you think she could answer your questions. Whether she'll be willing to, however, is something else.

Skalisss regards the evil woman with a scowl.

"My friend Mikara wantsss more than just her beauty back, I sssuggest you give usss sssome truthful answersss".

"What do you need from the Ambasssador?"

"Where can we find your massster now?"

"What isss hisss objective?"

"Isss there any other way to counteract the transssfer effect?"

The woman panics under Skalisss's glare, "I don't know what Bruno wants! I just do what he tells me! He- he told us to go out and kidnap the ambassador. He didn't say why..." She starts to trail off, but picks up again after another look at Skalisss, "Maybe it's because of the professor? I mean, Bruno knew they were working together, so that might mean something, right? He's probably still at our hideout, in the Undergrowth. That's where we were supposed to take the ambassador, at least."

"I don't know how to reverse the spell. It, um, hasn't come up," she adds, very quietly.

Andrec speaks quietly, while looking at something else as though not fully paying attention. "Looks like this Bruno kept all the intelligent victims for himself, then. Because you don't know anything of use to us." Andrec looks back at the woman. "Isn't that right?" Turning, he walks back over to the bars. "Somehow, I just don't buy it. An operation like this needs intelligent people. You're a step or two above the street punks. I'm betting you know more than you're letting on."
Walking to the door, Andrec picks up his sword and shield from where they rest. "Course, we can always leave you here while we check out what you've given us. Tell me, while you were picking and choosing the victims to feed from" pausing, he makes eye contact from across the room "did you pick up any extra tolerance for pain?"

 

[TwoHeadsBarking]

Her eyes go wide. Well, wider, in any case. "No! No, I swear I'm not lying! Bruno doesn't tell me anything anymore. He's changed, become paranoid. We don't know what he's planning." In this, at least, she seems truthful.

Andrec pauses, as though considering her words. He responds in a carefully neutral voice, "who is we?"
