[sblock=ooc]Right, but say we all just ignore one of the skill challenges for a round. That counts as a failure, right? Or, preferably, wrong?[/sblock]

[sblock=OOC] Ahh, I see what you mean. Then to answer your question, yes. If the party ignores a skill challenge for an entire round, it will count as an automatic failure. [/sblock]

[SBLOCK=So lets see if I get this right...]
How big is this train anyway? I thought we passed through numerous cabins beofre getting up to the 'first' class cabin, which is (or isn't?) attached to the engine of the train (please clarify for me..).

So as I read the current status...
The engine car is on fire (car 1?). The cabin we are in is really on fire now (car 2?), the other cabin(s) will catch on fire IF we fail skill challenge 3.

I am just trying to get a clear picture of how the train cars are laid out and what is and is not on fire yet. I got the impression from when we boarded the train that there were numerous 'steerage' class cars, then some middle class cars and then the first class car we are in now.

This encounter has gone from difficult to down right crazy and I want to be clear before deciding what to do.

Thanks Kalidrev. This has been a very thrilling encounter.

[sblock=Rail Cars] The Engine is what was north of you on the map (which is why I had the PCs attempting Skill Challenge 1 move to the top of the cabin you are in.

So,

Skill challenge 1: The Engine is on fire.

Skill challenge 2: The cabin you are currently in is on fire as well. The cabin you are in is the "upper class" cabin.

Skill Challenge 3: The cabin 1 car south of you is on fire as well. This is the "middle class" cabin. The passengers that were in this cabin fled 1 car south when the fire started.

IF you fail Skill Challenge 3, then you will have to deal with

Skill Challenge 4: where the "poor class" cabin is on fire. This is when the passengers will have to roll fort saves to stay alive. I have attached screen shots of these cabins in order of where they are (Left: "Engine and Upper Class" Middle: "Middle and Poor class"). String these vertically from top to bottom and you'd have the train layout. [/sblock]

[sblock=occ]I say we jump on thoes elemental carts remaining and let the train burn! Masumi dosen't know it but we were hired to investigate the theves and stop them not save a burning train. But what she does know is that she has no skills that make much sense in fighting it unless she tries....Tries to bluff the other passengers into helping! Although I still vote to let it burn.

Oh and is the train still stopping?[/sblock]

[sblock=lightning rail] No, the train is not slowing down. After Tracker nailed the engine with another shot, it upset the Elemental inside of the engine (which caused the burst of fire). Alexia may be able to get it to slow down with a few skill checks, though.[/sblock]

[sblock=We totally got this]Maybe. I hope so. I mean, I think so.

Skills like Arcana, Perception, and Thievery could probably be used to find mechanisms to help shut off the engine. Athletics, Endurance, and maybe even Nature could be used to put out the fires. And for the social skills, well, maybe you can encourage/threaten/fool the captain into being more useful. But you can still attempt to Aid Another. These, of course, are just the ideas I have off the top of my head. Maybe you can think of a reason to use Arcana or Thievery to extinguish the fire. Does Eberron, and this train in particular have magical fire extinguishers? I can only hope.

What we need to do is be very careful about our resources, namely, our standard actions. We only get six a round, but Gurdan not going to be able to get into a burning car this round, and it's not going to be long before people are going to need to use second winds. It seems vital that every skill challenge gets at least one attempt per round, just to avoid the auto-failure.

Ok, I have a plan. Challenge #2 is the one that's going to kill us if we don't pass it asap, while #s 1 and 3 are just ones we don't want to fail. So what we need to do is put as many resources into #2 while giving the others just enough to slow down their failures.

Only one person works on Challenge #3, and that person is the only one in that cabin. Additional people only increases the chance of getting a failure on it, and we really don't want to be splitting our focus any more than we have to be. So someone who's good at fighting fires needs to do it. Lo-Kag's the closest, but he should swap out with Gurdan once the latter can get into the middle car. Also, only one person should work on #1, for the same reason. Masumi or Garrick would be best for this, I suppose, and they should probably use the captain, since we really don't want to fail #1. Meanwhile, the rest of us work on #2, so that we don't all melt.

Does this make sense? I'm pretty sure this is a solid plan, but I'd like to hear what you the viewers think about it before I go ahead and roll.

Kalidrev, you don't mind if we make Aid Another rolls after recipient has already rolled, do you? *crosses fingers*

Sort of wish I had stuck with my Tiefling Artificer, not going to lie. That innate fire resist is looking pretty nice about now.[/sblock]

[sblock=THB]
So, Lo-Kag takes care of skill check 3 once Gurdan comes to our cabin to work on skill checks 1 and 2? Lo-kag gets a chance to try to put out the fire before Gurdan gets here. Correct? Lot's of people in cabin 3 for Lo-Kag to intimidate.
