Gershom will start to chase using his Streetwise skill to determine the best way to follow through the streets. And Insight to try to figure out where it might be going.

Streetwise: 1d20+12=20

Insight: 1d20+9=27

Occ: My first skill challenge so use one for round one and the second for round two, or however it works. Streetwise is first.

Lo-Kag sprints after the "thing." As it flies past Gershom, Lo-Kag in mid stride steps on the stone ledge of the bridge and leaps upwards in an attempt to snare the foe in mid air...

skill check: athletics 1d20+10=13

"What in the nine hells is that? I suppose this means more running about," Gurdan grumbles. He starts hauling his considerable dwarf frame after the thing, trying to get as good a look at it as he can to see if he can detect any weak points, or even a clue as to where it may be headed. (OOC: Perception 29! Wish there was such a thing as a skill-check crit...)

Gershom chases after the tentacle messenger and sees it dip below the bridge and head down. Knowing that the only way he could possibly keep up with this thing is to slow it down, he tries to herd it toward the busier and more crowded sections of the city. Up here, it has the advantage in the open air. In a densly populated area or section that had a lot of narrow passages, Gershom knows that they would be on even ground. Now if he could only get it to accidently enter one of the towers...

Leaping up to snare the "creature", Lo-Kag manages to get a hand on it for a moment, causing it to teeter in the air where it accidently heads the wrong direction for a moment. It get's it's bearings and begins headding it's original direction, but it is slowed down enough for the team to keep up rather than lose ground.

Another benifit this had was to allow Gurdan a perfect view of the object. It has twelve tenticals; four on each side, used for balance and movement, and two, each, on the front and back used for grasping and "tilling" the air for better air maneuverability. If you can either damage these tillers or force it to have to maneuver on the ground, you would have an insane advantage against this thing. After seeing where the object was going, Gurdan determines that the thing is heading for as much of an open-air section as it can so that it can excape without having to worry about someone on it's tail.

[sblock=OOC] Wow, those were some awesome skill checks. Gershom: Your advanced knowlege of this section of the city allows you to out-maneuver the messenger and herd it toward a less open section. This gives the group 1 Success!

Lo-Kag: Your leap and almost-grab gives you a +2 bonus to either your next skill check or to another team-mate of your choosing for their next skill check. You MUST announce in a seperate post BEFORE it is used (whether for yourself or for a friend). It must be used before the end of the next "round".

Gurdan: Wow... a skill crit. Much like Lo-Kag, you are granted a +2 bonus to your next skill check if you want it, however, you can also choose to expend it and give EVERYONE a +1 bonus to their next check. You MUST announce in a seperate post BEFORE it is used (and how it is being used). You have 2 rounds in which to use this bonus (not including this round).

Noticing Gershom's plan, Garrick does his best to help. Now, if he could only remember if there was a part of town withsomething that would slow down a flying creature...

Streetwise Check: 1d20+11+1 = 30.

Getting the same idea as Gershom, you decide it would be best to chase this thing into a more populated area to slow it down. Moving quickly through a shortcut , you manage to get on the other side of the flying thief and force it down into Upper Durra. The crowd is sparse, but it does force the creature to stay lower to the ground as you jump from rooftop to rooftop just out of reach of the messenger.

SUCCESSES:2 FAILURES: 0.

NOTE: No more successes can be garnered from the use of Streetwise without a large amount of creativity on the PCs part. The team has fully come to the conclusion that you should herd it into a more populated area (or better yet into a tower) to limit it's maneuverability and speed, and coming to this conclusion a second time won't help =P

Alexia is momentarily startled by Lord Jarot's transformation. However, she recovers quickly when she sees the orb fly off with the gem. As she gives chase through the streets, a small shadow detaches from her and flutters above the nearby buildings. It follows it's master while looking out for nearby towers or buildings to herd the device into.

ooc:Perception, with familiar for flavor. 24, including the bonus from nerdytenor.

Alexia's shadowy familiar soars slightly above the crowd, searching for a good location to trap the creature in. Just to the left side of the crowded market, it sees a door opening and a couple of kobold slaves were walking through. The familiar relays this information to it's master. Understanding the situation, Alexia knows that it would take perfect timing to make this work, but the crowd ahead was thick with merchant stores and purchasers in the open-air market, and if you could force the messenger through the door before it realized the danger, you could trap it in the tower! As a bard, timing is your forte', and you are confident that you can orchestrate the capture of the tentacled machine.

[sblock=OOC] SUCCESSES: 3/8 FAILURES: 0/4

I'm really beginning to dislike the errata for the DMG concerning Skill DCs... Even a Hard category check DC seems too easy for you guys, lol! Oh well... If I can't get you with the skill challenges, I'll just get you with the combats, lol. (The next one won't be as easy as the last one either!!)

I just need something from Grryth/DMDanW and we can continue to round 2 of the skill challenge! [/sblock]

As the creature departs with the Gem, Grryth chases after it. As Grryth runs through the streets he easily jumps over obsacles and dodges around pedestrians as paces his prey.

[sblock=OOC]
Sorry for the delay - was away for the weekend and now super busy at work. Anyway Grryth will make an Athletics check to run/jump/climb/whatever; 1d20+12.
