Recap of INTERCEPTION!
The salesman feels the bite of an axe in his back and this spurs him on even more, leaving him wide open for everyone to attack. As he moves to run, he steels himself against further attacks and a few of his wounds can be seen to slightly mend. Grryth and Lo-Kag gladly take this opportunity to slide their blades into the warforged's back. No matter how sly the warforged, a sword in the back (not to mention two...) will certainly cramp your style! Managing to barely pull himself away he sprints down the bridge trying to get past the dagger wielding minotaur. Roaring with rage, Gershom knees the passing warforged in the gut and then slams the dagger into the base of the salesman's skull, causing it to twitch and shudder as synaptic pathways are interrupted. The salesman slumps to the floor of the rocky bridge, fluids pouring out of the back of it's neck and back.
Having heard that the warforged and taken the gem and seeing the battle moving outside, Gurdis crept to the front door and then cheered as she saw the Minotaur put an end to the threat, thinking to herself... "Wait'a m'nit now... I d'nae hire a'beastie...".
Shrugging, she begins to walk over to the bridge to personally retrieve her gem when her jaw drops and she screams "NOOOO! GIT ME GEM!"
It's then that you notice something freeing itself from the salesman's chest. You would swear that it was a Final Messenger except that it has several tentacle-like limbs that propel it across the dead salesman's chest. The flat face of the tentacle messenger opens a single large glass eye. It stretches a tentacle and grabs the gem, jumps into the air and hovers for a moment before you can see a flash of light, the eye pointed towards all of you. It then races past Gershom, flying through the air in an attempt to escape you!
Lo-Kag sprints after the "thing." As it flies past Gershom, Lo-Kag in mid stride steps on the stone ledge of the bridge and leaps upwards in an attempt to snare the foe in mid air...
Lo-Kag manages to get a hand on it for a moment, causing it to teeter in the air where it accidentally heads the wrong direction for a moment. It get's it's bearings and begins heading it's original direction, but it is slowed down enough for the team to keep up rather than lose ground.
Another benefit this had was to allow Gurdan a perfect view of the object.
"What in the nine hells is that? I suppose this means more running about," Gurdan grumbles. He starts hauling his considerable dwarf frame after the thing, trying to get as good a look at it as he can to see if he can detect any weak points, or even a clue as to where it may be headed.
It has twelve tentacles; four on each side, used for balance and movement, and two, each, on the front and back used for grasping and "tilling" the air for better air maneuverability. He determines that if the team could either damage these tillers or force it to have to maneuver on the ground, you would have an insane advantage against this thing. After seeing where the object was going, Gurdan determines that the thing is heading for as much of an open-air section as it can so that it can escape without having to worry about someone on it's tail.
Gershom chases the creatures using his knowledge of Upper Dura to determine the best way to follow through the streets.
Gershom bolts after the tentacle messenger and sees it dip below the bridge and head down. Knowing that the only way he could possibly keep up with this thing is to slow it down, he tries to herd it toward the busier and more crowded sections of the city. Up here, it has the advantage in the open air. In a densely populated area or section that had a lot of narrow passages, Gershom knows that they would be on even ground. Now if he could only get it to accidentally enter one of the towers...
Noticing Gershom's plan, Garrick does his best to help. Now, if he could only remember if there was a part of town with something that would slow down a flying creature...
Getting the same idea as Gershom, he decides it would be best to chase this thing into a more populated area to slow it down. Moving quickly through a shortcut , Garrick manages to get on the other side of the flying thief and herds it down into Upper Dura. The crowd is sparse, but it does force the creature to stay lower to the ground as he jumps from rooftop to rooftop just out of reach of the messenger.
Alexia is momentarily startled by Lord Jarot's transformation. However, she recovers quickly when she sees the orb fly off with the gem. As she gives chase through the streets, a small shadow detaches from her and flutters above the nearby buildings. It follows it's master while looking out for nearby towers or buildings to herd the device into.
Alexia's shadowy familiar soars slightly above the crowd, searching for a good location to trap the creature in. Just to the left side of the crowded market, it sees a door opening and a couple of kobold slaves were walking through. The familiar relays this information to it's master. Understanding the situation, Alexia knows that it would take perfect timing to make this work, but the crowd ahead was thick with merchant stores and purchasers in the open-air market, and if you could force the messenger through the door before it realized the danger, you could trap it in the tower! As a bard, timing is your forte', and you are confident that you can orchestrate the capture of the tentacled machine.
As the creature departs with the Gem, Grryth chases after it. Grryth runs through the streets and easily jumps over obstacles and dodges around pedestrians as he paces his prey.
Seeing that the group was trying to maneuver it in a particular direction, the creature tries to push back, attempting to force the team into the quickly growing throng of people in the streets.
Alexia effortlessly moves through the crowd like a fish through water.
"Come on! We have to drive it into that tower before it gets away!"
After calling out to her companions, Alexia clambers up some crates onto a low roof, clearly planning to continue the chase above the mass of pedestrians. This eases Alexia's travel, as there are plenty of places to cross in this busy part of the city. At her vantage point, she finds it easier to guide her companions.
Lo-Kag rushes through the crowd with ease. Hearing Alexia from the top of the crates, he decides to get some help. He rushes to a group of on-lookers and screams at them "You better help us get that flying thing headed towards that tower or you'll be in a world of hurt! Run after it! NOW!!"
Frightened by the shouting dragonborn, several merchants and customers chase after the thing flying just above the heads of the crowd. This starts a chain reaction that causes more people to start chasing the messenger (some not even knowing why!!), creating a large wall of people in front of and to the side of it, forcing it to constantly change paths to get away from the crowd. Every time it tries to fly away or upward, one hand or another gets a temporary grasp on one of it's tentacles which severely hampers it's ability to get away. You can see it snap out several times with tentacles that lash an arm, chest, or face, but the crowd is too large for it to effectively continue on its path.
Seeing the scene play out before him, Gershom gets the idea that if the crowd could be manipulated to travel in the right direction, they could actually force the creature towards the tower that you want to trap it in.
Gurdan pounds through the streets, alley, and crowds - nudging, pushing, and yes, shouting, when necessary to keep the others, and the flying gadget, in his sights. Little did he know that by doing exactly what he was doing, he was physically herding the dragonborn incensed crowd toward the messenger. Now all you need to do is get that thing into the tower door and you should be able to lock it down.
Upon noticing what Lo-Kag is trying to do, Grryth glances around to see how he can help the situation. As the throng of people chase after the creature, Grryth nimbly makes his way through the crowd over to a merchants stall. As he runs by he grabs a hold of the cloth awning above the stall and with a quick tug rips it free.
Now with the sheet of cloth in hand Grryth hurries to get around and ahead of the creature. Grasping the sheet in both hands Grryth continually bats the messenger, pushing it around in the air and blocking it's vision with the cloth so that it had no idea where it was actually traveling. Pulling the cloth aside at the last possible moment, he pulls the cloth to the side and the messenger flies through the tower door. Grryth quickly slams the door shut to prevent escape, but he knows the group will have to enter the tower quickly to prevent it from finding another escape route.
The crowd looks at the adventurers, clearing a path to let them through.
"Go get it heroes!"
"Save us from the monster!"
"What IS that thing anyway!?"
The many merchants and customers look nervous, wondering if the creature was going to burst out of the door any minute. Mostly, though, they look at Lo-Kag... with fear in their eyes.
