Val, the Light of il-Yannah and Dol Arrah will both shine on you and ward you from Khyber Darkness. thinks River to his old companion.

The group rushes forward, Valahad's distraction working as the cultists are totally focused on him. Feall and Sheeva have to slow their steps somewhat for the more encumbered River and smaller statured Pok to keep up. The stairs are difficult to navigate, being about two and a half feet deep, but the group manages.

The guards have just entered some massive stone doors in the mountain when the quartet reaches the top of the stairs. Looking back, Val appears to have finally been overwhelmed, when suddenly an explosion of light rocks the area, sending many of the cultists flying. It reminds you of the disappearance of Lanharath.

A great hall beyond the immense double doors is empty of furnishings, its vaulted ceiling rising to a height of 40 feet. Burning braziers illuminate oversized stairs to the west. Two more sets of open double doors stand beyond the stairs.

The walls here are carved with regular rows of oversized runes, an unknown alphabet etched in letters a foot high.

You see the orc manage to break free of his captors and grabs his weapon, the one in the lead turns and says "This one's more trouble than he's worth, let's just kill him...who are you? This area is forbidden!"

Suddenly, two ballista pop out of the ground at the top of the stairs, their arrows crackling with lightning.

Rumbum breaks free and moves back a couple paces. Now you see what Rumbum can do to those who are not nice to Rumbum. You will pay! ahhhh ha ha! On the last words of the orc, he charges the one in the middle, sinking his axe deep into the foe's right arm.

Feall focuses his will on the Orc's captor - the one already struck - and sends thoughts of doom through the flickering shadows of the room. The Khyber looks around wildly as doubt assails his mind and he begins to suspect even his fellow Cultists of betrayal. The young Assassin races toward the fray, pulling sheltering shadows 'round him as he goes.

The men to the sides of Rumbum move to either side of the orc after drawing short swords, and stab at him. One of the blades draws a deep wound on the warrior, the other scraping off the armor.

The lead captor steps forward, a large clawed gauntlet on his left hand and slashes with it at Rumbum. His claws dig deep into an exposed part of his adversary. "You aren't worthy to see the Voice, we shall bring your corpse as an offering" he spats.

The ballistas launch volleys of arrows down the hall, towards River and Sheeva. The drow is able to move out of the way of the majority of arrows and her connection to the power of storm's protects her somewhat, but River takes a multitude of the small projectiles, the lightning coursing along his muscles and leaving him in pain.

Feall disappears from the sheltering shadows, reappearing behind his target. Inky shadows snake from his hands, but fail to find purchase around the Khyber neck. Nevertheless, the man reels as his psyche is assaulted by paranoid thoughts of betrayal.
