"I'm bushed - haven't slept well, been travelling hard and fighting harder. I say we find a place fairly close so Sheeva can find us when she returns, set a watch and get some shut-eye.

Pok, I understand your desire to find a settlement, but the same logic that says there are no Khyber closeby for Sheeva to worry about on her scout says that there are none close by for us to fret over either. Reasonable precautions should protect us long enough to get some rest.

Whatever we decide, lets do it quickly. It seems like we've been discussing, or rather arguing, everything to death. Let's just do something."

Sheeva will try to be stealthy when moving through brush or if there seems to be loose rock near the road, otherwise as long as she hears the insects and has good line of sight, she will be doing a normal walk pace quiet, but not super stealthy.

As you are walking, there is a stretch where the scrub grows thick, the plants pulling at your clothing, but you manage to pass with little sound. Your stealth is rewarded as you come upon a small path branching off the main road, and you hear voices drifting in the quiet night air. You cannot quite make out what they're saying, but the language sounds alien to you.[/sblock]

Sheeva will sneak up on these individuals, keeping herself as hidden as possible. She is not intent on watching them. She is just intent on getting a quick peek, counting their numbers, seeing what types of creatures they are, and then retreating. If possible, she will not go on the path, rather she would prefer to stay at the edge of the path where there is more cover. She is also interested in what is behind the creatures (a camp, a cave, more creatures, whatever).

You sneak forward, a small twig snaps, but the creatures don't turn.

There are three creatures here, two of the are grim, emaciated humanoids with disease-hued flesh. Their eye sockets gape, open and empty, above a mouth with a protruding, wormlike tongue. Writhing cilia cover their bodies. with longer tendrils around their heads; two wiry tentacles protrude from bare shoulders.

The third has their back to you, a heavy cloak and flowing robes hide the body shape from you. They speak in a strange, alien sounding language. They stand in a small clearing, 5 backpacks lie on the ground around a pair of tents.

ooc - you can roll dungeoneering to gather anything else about them.[/sblock]

Sheeva safely makes it back to the group, the enemies, whatever they were appear not to have noticed you.

The group apparently is still standing around when you return, unsure of where to rest.

Sheeva explains what she found.

"There were three humanoid creatures. Two were emaciated and disease covered with strange worm-like tongues, weird stuff on their bodies, and long tendrils on their heads and shoulders. The other had his back to me and was in robes and a heavy cloak, so I couldn't tell what he looked like. There might be others there. I saw 2 tents and 5 backpacks in a clearing. Some of the backpacks might belong to the shapeshifters we killed, or this might be an entirely new group."

[sblock]renau1g, you'll need to supply us with any other information like which side of the trail, how far away, etc.[/sblock]

Speaking in the minds of the group at this new information. "Not what I wanted to hear. How far away are they? From your desciption, these are clearly not creatures of this world. We should take the fight to them, just in case they are on our trail. Good job."

Speaking only to Pok, "She did good here. She is telling the truth. I would know if she weren't. Let's keep the spy talk down right now. We need to stick together."

[sblock=ooc]How do we want to plan this? I can't sneak up on anybody. Do we want those than can sneak to do so and then retreat, back to the rest of the group.[/sblock]

Feall looks distinctly embarrassed as Sheeva reports her findings. "Good call, Sheeva. I'm still exhausted, but we need to take care of this group before resting."

He shifts focus and addresses the entire group. "I suggest we get a little closer and set an ambush - I'll play bait. I can likely get close enough to do a little damage and then run back this way. And I can see well enough not to trip over a rock running from them in the dark."
