Adversarial Campaign

Warcraft III is coming out soon. Yay!

I played the beta a couple of months ago. It rocks.

As far as the original question goes, I have never run or played in such a game. However, I think this type of game is ideal for PBEM. I had an idea to run one that consisted of the different PCs being marooned on different parts of an island and haveing the goal of finding and killing each other.

Amber Throne Wars are a pretty good example of competitive roleplaying campaigns. Usually at times they devolve into wimpy cooperative adventures when the GM breaks out a major threat but after that clears up the players go back to scheming.

Group Vs Group

The main Dm for my Group and I have run one shot games like this multiple times at the local convention.

Usually we set up two games running at the same time in rooms next to each other. The first half of the game is normal, fighting monsters NPC's etc. The final fight though ends up at the goal with a second party arriving at the same time. This works best with either 1 group of good pc's and one evil or two groups of evil.

Its a long intenst fight, but really brings out the survival in players/characters more than a normal game because a player can usually do a much better job with a single character vs a DM running a group of monster's/npc's. This is because their is less to keep track of and you get a variety of responses when someone does something.

The downside is if the people playing aren't mature enough it gets tough, also you have to be very careful about keeping groups as balanced as possible. You let someone in with an overpowering item and it can throw the whole thing in to mass chaos.

Even when a player controls multiple monsters/NPCs, he can go for the throat more. He won't feel the pangs of guilt for a Total Party Kill any more than when he wipes out a typical dungeon. He has specific resources at hand, and he'll use them to the best of his ability.

Agreed. Fog of War is easy enough to emulate with one side "versus" the DM -- he can just withhold info from the players -- but it gets difficult with two sides in the same room.

Perhaps most of the plotting and planning could go on via e-mail, say, during the week, and the resulting battles could play out face to face on the weekend, when everyone can get together.

Nonsense.

Have two groups of Good PCs and make it clear to them that the other group is Evil.

I always love that basic idea. In a play-by-e-mail game, you can play around with subjectivity even more. Perhaps the players don't even realize that the "misshapen giants" they're facing are in fact humans, and that they themselves are goblins...

How useful is inflicting SAN damage against the monosyllabic?

How do the monosyllabic even manage to comprehend "monosyllabic", since it contains five syllables?

Does the previous question count for the purposes of inflicting SAN damage?
