Advice on what Kingdom of Kalamar setting material to pick up

Sorry Mark, I was going to order a bunch of modules, but I agree the shipping is rediculous.

Is there any way you can use the USPS shipping boxes that are $8 and change irregardless of weight? You can likely fit my entire desired order in one of those, and cut my shipping cost by more than 50%.

We do use the flat rate boxes ($8.95) when possible, but with different products of different prices, sizes and weights, we have to set average shipping and handling costs that meet our needs. Sorry if it's still too high for you - with the 75% off I still think you'd be saving an @$$load of money. ;)

Impressions of Kalamar; Question about Player's Guide to the Sovereign Lands

Wow.

I got my Kingdom of Kalamar books in a few days ago and despite a busy weekend I've had time to browse through most of them. Let me take this opportunity to apologize to Kenzer & Co. for not supporting this line during the last seven years, because it's absolutely incredible. I can't believe I wasn't with this one from the beginning. I can only blame the fact that I don't have a FLGS nearby and the only book I ever remember seeing at the book store was the Campaign Setting Sourcebook which is fantastic on its own, but perhaps was overshadowed by WotC releases at the time. (i.e. I wasn't as trustworthy as third-party releases back in 2001. My how things have changed!)

I picked up the Campaign Setting Sourcebook, Atlas, Dangerous Denizens, Player's Primer, and the DM's Screen. All the books arrived in good shape (though the DM's Screen was a bit warped and is now sitting at the bottom of stack of heavy books) and I was very impressed with the lot. And...I want more!

What I'm looking at now is the Player's Guide to the Sovereign Lands. I've read Crothian's review for the pdf version of this book and it sounds fantastic, but I'm much more interested in getting a printed version. Has anyone ordered this print on demand book through the Lulu service option on the Kenzer & Co. website? I realize it's twice as expensive as the pdf, but I can't put a pdf file on my bookshelf (and I'm way behind in the tech world so there's no laptop/notebook computer in my life). Anyway, curious about any feedback from the one or two of you out there who might have ordered the book in the past.

Thanks!

Thanks for the kind words, ivocaliban. :)

As much as I love the Player's Guide to the Sovereign Lands (we ordered a copy for the office - nice white pages and sturdy hardcover), you should probably grab as much as you can from our online 75% off sale while it's still going on. It'll end in a month or so.

Quite welcome. I only wish I'd come onboard earlier.

Ach! Well, I'm glad to hear the sale will be around for a little while longer, at least. I really want that Player's Guide (as I'll probably need it to convince my players to give Kalamar its fair shake), but I may have to put it off to take advantage of the sale. I'm interested in some of the race oriented books, particularly the Hobgoblins, Elves, and Dark Elves volumes. I might pick up the Stealth & Style book, too. Oh, and Geanavue and Loona and...

Curse you, Mark Plemmons! :heh:

Thanks! Although, you are a couple of days late. I've already ordered a print copy from the folks at Lulu. I just couldn't wait! Hopefully, the 75% off sale will last long enough for me to purchase another pile of Kalamar books later this month! *fingers crossed*

Excellent review, though! Seems pretty fair, too, which is always a good thing. Some of the criticisms seemed a bit more like personal preferences to me, but it takes all kinds. I'm even more excited to receive this book now, but I must wait for several weeks! (I just hope they securely package it. Man, I've had some bad luck with poorly packaged eBay books/magazines this week.)

I know you guys have to get rid of the D&D branded stuff, but will you still be able to sell any of the same stuff in an unbranded format (like pdf only if you can't reprint hardcover books) or is this essentially it for the KoK line?

Most of our Kingdoms of Kalamar line doesn't use any Wizards IP (intellectual property), and what there is can easily be changed or removed. So I hope that you'll see most of the Kalamar material as PDFs and/or POD (print on demand) books in the near future, though it may take us some time to get them all done.

After we release the next edition of HackMaster in a couple of years, our future Kingdoms of Kalamar supplements will be as systemless as possible, but will use HM rules when necessary. In the meantime, you may see some new PDFs for use with D&D 3.5 and/or 4.0. Kalamar's not going anywhere...!
