Advice on what Kingdom of Kalamar setting material to pick up

If a certain area of Tellene interests you, try to get stuff set in that area.
This is solid advice, but it brings up another question: Which adventures take place where? I'm thinking of focusing on Pekal, so I plan on picking up the Pekal Gazatteer along with adventures Perils of Pekal and Deathright. Unfortunately, I can't really tell where all of the adventures take place. I've managed to figure out a few from reading descriptions, but if any one knows off-hand, that info would be handy in making my next purchase.

As much as I want to buy just about everything that's up for grabs for Kalamar I've got to limit myself somewhere.

Most of our Kingdoms of Kalamar line doesn't use any Wizards IP (intellectual property), and what there is can easily be changed or removed. So I hope that you'll see most of the Kalamar material as PDFs and/or POD (print on demand) books in the near future, though it may take us some time to get them all done.

After we release the next edition of HackMaster in a couple of years, our future Kingdoms of Kalamar supplements will be as systemless as possible, but will use HM rules when necessary. In the meantime, you may see some new PDFs for use with D&D 3.5 and/or 4.0. Kalamar's not going anywhere...!
All good news as far as I'm concerned!

Just what I wanted to hear. I would like to start a new group in KoK after the first of the year. Starting this time of year is just asking for schedule problems.

Lands of Mystery (4 short adventures) also contains a short adventure set in Pekal.

You might also look at Fate of Heroes, Invasion of Arun'Kid, and Harvest of Darkness (4 short adventures). Though not set in Pekal, they're in the general area.

I'm actually interested in this sale, but I'm actually NOT interested in fluff; I'm interested in crunch. One of the reasons I've steered clear of KoK so far is the lack of crunch in most of the books. Is there any crunch-heavy books that someone could steer me to?

Thanks!
C

Hmmm... Most KoK books are at least 75% flavor with 25% or less crunch, so it's tough to pick.

Maybe Dangerous Denizens, or Stealth & Style would be in the 50/50 range. Otherwise I'd definitely say the Player's Guide to the Sovereign Lands, but that's not in the sale. ;)

I would say you'd get the most crunch for you buck in...

Stealth & Style: A Variant Class Guidebook to the Infiltrator and Basiran Dancer which includes:

- 112 pages of useful D&D (v3.5) game material featuring these two new variant classes, along with their origins and history!
- 10 new feats, including Double-Jointed and Urban Tracking!
- 25 new spells, such as dance of the bull, frenzy and quickstep!
- 11 new pieces of equipment
- 13 new prestige classes, including the death dancer, elemental dancer and saboteur!
- 8 new magic items

The Villain Design Handbook has:

- A step-by-step guide to villain design
- 7 new prestige classes
- 24 new villainous feats
- revised rules for anti-feats
- 81 new evil spells
- vicious new combat options
- new monsters and undead templates, detailing the rituals for creating all kinds of intelligent undead

and of course Dangerous Denizens: The Monsters of Tellene with:

- 127 monsters and 98 common animals
- 7 new character races
- Round-by-round tactics for each monster

There are other books with more specific crunch like the various racial books, but the three above certainly have broader appeal and could be easily used in just about any campaign.

Thanks for the info. The list of books I want keeps growing, though, so I'm going to have to make some tough decisions. I'll probably stick to the three books I mentioned earlier for Pekal so I can pick up the races books, as well. Now it's just a matter of being able to place my order before the sale ends!

I was quite happy to be able to get the Harvest of Darkness pdf. The more Kalamar products you can similarly simply remove the D&D logo from the cover and turn into a pdf the better. I look forward to seeing more of them. :)
