AE Combat Rites and ToB: Bo9S Maneuvers

First Post
I was mining Monte Cook's Arcana Unearthed for more spells for my current Eberron campaign and read up on the Combat Rites. Recently in a ToB: Bo9S weekly campaign, I was struck the similarities between the CRs and the Bo9S stances and maneuvers.

Has anyone else noticed this? If so, could someone point out the forum post? Thanks!

I am completely convinced someone at WOTC took one look at AE's combat rites and went, "Holy crap that's a great idea!!"

The trail has also led me to the Book of Iron Might, and Iron Heroes. . .

Some. . . questioning is in order, I think. :]

I'm fairly sure the Ritual Warrior was Monte's own idea. And years before Tome of Battle was made. The two are unrelated, with the sole exception that Mearls or someone at WotC might've thought the Ritual Warrior was cool and decided to emulate it in the ToB.

Heh. If you really want to take the wayback machine, there was a 3.0 supplement called Mystic Warriors by Mystic Eye Games that had a similar idea.

Of course, it was an early D20 OGL product with inexperienced designers and the balance wasn't quite there... but the basic concept was.

I haven't ever read Arcana Unearthed (love Monte, just have limited time), so when I was working on Bo9S, I wasn't influenced by that. I was just trying to get the poor old fighter back on par with the other classes (*cough* CoDzilla *cough*). Of course, given the way WOTC works with freelancers, a lot of the final book was not exactly what I initially did. I don't remember anyone ever mentioning anything about Combat Rites, though, for what it's worth. Probably just a case of designers converging independently on the same thing.

Transcendence?

Cheers, LT.

Details? That's one of the few Malhavoc products I don't have
