Age of Empires Addict

I've been playing Age of Empires ever since it first came out and still do. I love AoE I & II and am really looking forward to the release of III. I play a game of AoE every day and I am proud to say that I am delightfully addicted to it. Sound off if you are an AoE addict!

Used to be, when I played with friend. Age of Mythology was fun, too but they have them set up to be too multi player and I perfer it playing the solo campaigns.

Used to play a fair amount, but the group I played with never really gave up Warcraft and Command and Conquer at the time. So it was a passing phase for us...

I always thought that AoM had a stronger campaign than the previous Age titles if only because the campaign was one big story rather than several shorter campaigns... although I did quite enjoy the historical campaigns.

Apart from that... you can't beat dropping a meteor on someone's town. Pure gaming happiness.

Can't wait till Age3 ships in the fall!

I think if you had asked this question a few years ago, you would have gotten more of a response. Today, there probably aren't many playing it.

Case in point: myself. I loaded up AoE over the weekend and played through a few of the scenerios. I found them fun but the micro management of my villagers is not fun for me. I loved the game when it came out but didn't like that even then. I accepted it, though, because I liked the game. Right after this, I loaded up Rise of Nations and played a game of that, doing nearly the same thing. This is a worthy sequel to AoE. I can control all of my units but I can also automate the villagers to automatically collect resources. I really liked that! It allowed me to focus on newer cities, knowing my established ones are doing fine.

So, it isn't that AoE was a terrible game. For me, it is that newer games have functionality that really helps me enjoy the game.

Just a few coppers worth.

Have a good one! Take care!

btw, I did pick up the Star Wars game based on AoE. I am still going through the tutorials but I already see one thing that I like about it that I don't remember AoE having. In this game, you can have farmers, doing some high tech farming. When it runs out, you can set up "re-seeds" to automatically start the farm again. I don't know if AoE2 had that but it was a pain, imo, to go back and tell the now idle villager to create a farm again. In any event, I am very hopeful that I will enjoy the SW aspect of this game, which is based on AoE.

Again, just my opinion. I did have some fun times with AoE!

Have a good one! Take care!

That SW game was built on the engine for AoE2's expansion pack, The Conquerors. That expansion pack had the farm queue. Smart villagers too. TC had LOTS of cool improvements like that.

Frukathka, you might head over to AoE III Heaven. Lots of collected info about the next Age game there. And lots of addicts. :)
