Age of Worms - Kudos

The Age of Worms looks pretty sweet so far. I love the detail given to Diamond Lake. I wish I wish Cauldron got that kind of treatment!

I would love to start running it but my group just started the 3rd module in the Shackled City. Looks like we have a long way to go!

This looks very solid.

I may have to run this. (Thinking about my next campaign and debating between World's Largest Dungeon, Drow Wars, Shackled City and this.)

I do wish that the map had some more durability though. Seems very thin from casual use.

Is each month's installment going to be a one-nighter (i.e. a 4-6 hour adventure), or is there more to it than that? I've just started a new campaign and we're meeting every other week right now, so I wonder if there is enough "stuff" in each installment to stretch over two or three sessions each month?

I haven't playtested it, but I'd be surprised if you could whip through the first one in one session. Two or three sounds about right.

Future installments, I have no idea.

I seriously doubt it. Each module is supposed to advance the characters 1-3 levels. That's not going to happen in 4-6 hours.

And if AP1 is any indication, some of the modules are going to be LONG, especially if they use equally-sized dungeons.

The Mud Sorceror's Tomb was not as good as The Whispering Cairn.
Well... let's not all go and say things we can't take back. (;))

I am very much looking forward to my issue when it arrives.

I read and re-read and re-re-read Mud Sorceror's Tomb last month recently to do a 3.5 conversion of it.

The Whispering Cairn is a better module. *shrugs* It is clearly inspired by MST in parts of its approach too - it's just a better overall effort given the expanded resources of Dungeon to give it the full treatment: map, background, writing and details wise.

YMMV - but I call em as I see em - and that's the way I see em :) (BTW, I do not share the view that MST is the best module Dungeon has ever done - but many think it is).

I am not saying the whole Age of Worms is necessarily going to rock the house. It may or it may not; but right now - the Whispering Cairn is an excellent - if deadly - adventure.

I will throw my log on the fire in that I am of the opinion that the Whispering Cairn will chew up newbie adventurers and spit them out. Note that when I say newbies, I mean new players -- not new characters played by veteran players.

Although veterans can be expected to pick up on the hints regarding the various traps, newbies cannot be expected to do so. Thus, the newbie are at grave risk of blundering into some mighty nasty traps that certainly can kill them.

Also, the for PCs really to succeed will require a lot of investigation and careful planning before taking action. Veterans (sometimes) do this. Newbies typically don't.

I do think the adventure is very good, but I'd be worried about springing it on new players, for fear of getting them in over their heads.

Yeah, me too (though it was a few months ago). Slowly going through all my previous-edition Dungeon mags getting the proper ELs (on #57 now!).

To be honest, I was just joking (with the wink) - I'm not really doubting you. I'm very much looking forward to my magazine arriving as I've only heard good things so far.
