I hope they don't create art that way. Hitler, by most reckonings, would have a VERY high charisma, but I don't really see him as a handsome man or pretty boy.

Charisma |= Physical Beauty

While I personally divorce physical appearance from charisma entirely, by the RAW your attractiveness is indeed one of the factors of your charisma score, though it's not the only one.

Sure, but all they're saying is that appearance is a factor. Not that attractiveness is sufficient.

If appearance didn't matter at all in politics, presidential candidates wouldn't dye their hair -- or hide their wheelchairs. Like news anchors, they're going for a very specific subset of attractiveness.

Thus the dreadful decision in 2e to introduce a "Comeliness" stat (ugh) to reflect one's physical beauty as separate from one's force of personality.

BTW, was "Comeliness" in Gygax's Unearthed Arcana before it was in 2e? Can't recall.

Herein lies my problem with Mialee. Elves are supposed to be beautiful, yet she's ugly. Her head is misshapen too. When I think of elves, I think of Elmore's paintings of such great characters as Laurana and Gilthanas. Heck, the elven female in the DMG showing off her elven chain is quite beautiful too. But not Mialee.
Elves as a whole are beautiful. Doesn't mean each individual one is. Not every member of a race looks the same.

How can you cite an article on Godwin's law and not realize you are invoking a (not universally accepted) corrolary to Godwin's law, not the law itself?

Damn, beat me to the punch!

Sorry, Umbran, but you fail. :(
