i picked up a book and it may not be current (who can keep up with all this 3.0, 3.5, 3.2 1/2 nonsense) but its called heroes of horror, and i gotta tell you it is worth the $29.95! its great! maybe im behind the times and im sure youll all be saying "dude that is SO four years ago" but im telling you im impressed. 3e has some great ideas, its just the rules system ive got beef with. but i tell you, pick up this book if you havent already.

It's a fairly new title, as it happens. And your opinion is all the more interesting, coming from someone who isn't that keen on the system for which it's written, so thanks for the input. I was going to pretend that it had never been written (I have enough books on my wish list already) but you've convinced me to check it out. Cheers!

I'm really impressed with the quality of the books lately. I just picked up Races of Eberron and the writeup on the perspective, beliefs, culture, and history of the warforged is excellent. Great fluff! It really drives home what it's like to be such a pitiful creature.

I think heroes of Horror is worth it for the monsters and 2 core classes alone.

If you look at the Dread Necromancer carefully and your 1stEd-fu is good, you will realize that it is the 3.5 version of the White Dwarf Necromancer, or as close as you will ever get to it.

I have always wanted to have a "prayerbook" cleric.

Indeed, I read throught the Archivist on the wizards board and was struck with a desire to run a campaign with Archivists as the only spellcasters, just define arcane spells as learnable and call it done. (Possibly druids and sorcerers as lesser caster types.)

one thing i like to do is take 3e prestige classes and turn them into custom classes. i keep a DMG/PHB thats pretty exhaustive in case someone wants to run a campaign in my setting. if your running dry as many DM's do, this book is invaluable. another good 3e book is encyclopedia of demons and devils and encyclopedia of angels by fast forward entertainment.(products of the open game liscense, another 3e triumph! i have to begrudgingly tip my hat.) and the scarred lands 3e books.s

I felt a little cheated by this book. It read like the Complete Book of Taint and if you don't like that particular mechanic, then you're left with less than half a book. Maybe it'll grow on me. Either way, I'm glad to hear that it's rekindled interest for some of you.
