Despite the name Al-Qadim isn't much of a RPG. It's a scrolling adventure game with a few RPG elements thrown in (your character doesn't even gain levels, AFAIR).

On the other hand, Darksun was cool... and Darksun 2 too, but I heard it could not be finished due to bugs.

Well I see one very good use for the site. I've been trying to get my UFO to work on my new computer for ages without much luck. The version they have available there works without having to do anything to it. You know what this means? I get to play UFO once again!

Same game. It's called UFO:Enemy Unknown on this side of the Atlantic. They had to change the name for the american market because of some weird copyright issues.

Word??? I always thought Ultima IV was the most fire of the Ultima series... VI did roXX0rz though.

I suspect ironically enough that it is because of the British series "UFO", which X-Com was clearly based on.

Yea, I remember the game. I also remember it not being all that great, but I would like to see it again, because I don't remember much about it. I didn't see the Dark Sun games listed on there. Must have skipped past them. And yes, I remember them being quite buggy.

I downloaded a couple of games from this site last night. I got Loom and a few others.

It took me a while to get Loom to work. It worked, but without sound.

Apparently, there is a program called DosBox. You run dosbox.exe and pass it the name of the program you want to run as a parameter. It's kind of interesting, but it worked, and I got sound.

Amazing how simple that game is, andhow small (like 2 megs). I think the biggest game I downloaded was like 6 megs.

And the FAQ for the site talks about the legality of this stuff. Basically, it says that it's not technically legal, but that the copyright holders aren't producing or supporting the software anymore, and thus have no legal reasons to fight it. So, it's legal by virtue of laziness. Interesting.

And some of the games on the site are actually for sale, like Monkey Island, which I tried downloading, but didn't want to pay $14.95 for.
