Ahsoka - SPOILERS

How much time passes between Ahsoka and Episode 7?
The Mandalorian started in 9 ABY, which was 25 years before The Force Awakens. Ahsoka is probably set around 11 ABY.

It's entirely possible that Thrawn is the start of the First Order.
Unlikely, as Disney has already established the beginnings of the First Order in other media (mainly novels, I think). A lot of the groundwork was laid by General Hux's dad.

And a thought occurs about the New Republic and their incompetence. How much of it is incompetence and how much of it is outright sabotage? We know the NR has been infiltrated by Imperial loyalists. SIgnificantly infiltrated. It's entirely possible that much of the incompetence is the result of internal sabotage by Imperial 5th columnists.
Yes, exactly. I've said as much upthread. As we saw in The Mandalorian S3 and again in Ahsoka, the New Republic is being actively undermined by Imperial loyalists.

See, now, I've never read the novels, so, that's news to me. But, it's a big galaxy. I'm sure that they can use Thrawn as the impetus for rallying Imperial forces which then morphs into the First Order. It's not like they have to keep Thrawn around for very long. A couple of movies and a series and they're good to go. :D

When they have about 20 years (ish) to fiddle with, there's lots of space to move around. (sorry about the pun)

Hux's dad was one of those officers waiting for Thrawn to come back, though. I expect Thrawn to come back, either at the end of this show, or maybe in season 4 of Mandalorian or if there is a season 2 for Ahsoka, and then the theatrical movie that wraps up all the plotlines from the D+ shows will be where Thrawn is defeated and the Imperial survivors from that will be the ones that form the First Order.

First Order theoretically exists now. They don't have Starkville bass tgat nega ship or new Star Destroyer designs yet.

TFA is approx 23 years on the future.

First Order already exists now. They have the Eclipse a SSD and whatever Imperial equipment they fled with. Others joined them presumably the older ISDs hot recycled into those new ones.

Huxs Father was in Mandalorian S3. Theoretically there's a link from the First Order to the Remnants via him.

Moff Gideon and Pelleaon are the other Imperials that mattered in S3 Mandalorian.

Rae Sloane helped set up the 1st Order just after Battle Of Jakku about 5-6 years ago in Ahsoka.

The Imperial Remnant is factionated, with two main groupings: a Palpatine-loving cloner faction (The First Order) and a rival, "Empire is bigger than one person" faction, who want Thrawn back to restore order to the galaxy.

The Palpatine faction was actually set up by Palpatine himself, before the fall of the Empire, and was operating secretly in parallel with the Empire.

Perhaps. There's the First Order the most fanatical and the Imperial Remnants the rest of the Empire that didn't surrender and the First Order didn't want them.

See how they relate to each other.

Very simple. 20 years of keeping track of the old EU material read most of the novels dealing with the heroes of Yavin, clone wars stuff not so much.

But mostly wookiepedia/wiki.

There's still active fan based Legends material eg Thrawns Revenge mod for Empure at War. You pick a faction and can reunite the Empire for example or play as New Republic, the Dark Empire, Empire of the Hand etc.

I don't read the new comics or books but do get recaps on YouTube or see the odd panel online.

Canon Empire stuff
