Alea Publishing Group is proud to announce their development of an entirely new game system that will eventually transverse all aspects of gaming: The 2d6 String System.

Alea Publishing Group retained permission to use this game system mechanic from its original creators of its initial platform: Luke Peterschmidt (Guardians, Warhammer 40K CCG) and Brom.

Many might remember the ever-popular CCG, Dark Age: Feudal Lords where warlords battle one another in a post-apocalyptic earth setting. It is the game system's ingenuity and simplicity of using a 2d6 format that drew Alea Publishing Group in picking up the torch where FPG, Inc. left off.

We have retained permission to further develop the system in a RPG and to redevelop it into a CCG as well. Our initial plans are to create an atmosphere where characters from the CCG can become NPCs (allies, villains, or both) in the RPG simply by using the card.

We would also like to stress that this is not going to be a collectable RPG - meaning that you will not have to buy the card game to play the RPG and vice versa - they will be separate in the own right, but will also be able to use the system interchangeably should you wish to do so.

So be on the look out at our Alea Publishing Group and in our bi-monthly magazine, Poor Gamer's Almanac for more development details.

It will be the system only that appeared in FPG, Inc.'s Dark Age CCG - not the Dark Age World (that would be awesome, but the imagery and world is licensed by Dark-Age Games) - we are in development in expanding the system for role-play use at the moment.

We are developing the RPG first then the CCG at a later date.

As of now, the RPG will initially be geared for use in a generic fantasy and real world medieval setting. It will then be applied to our upcoming (2006) d20 fantasy campaign setting: Feudal Lords - so that there will be two game systems to choose for that setting.

However, since the 2d6 String System is different from d20 the two Feudal Lord Setting will also have a different feel as well.

I thought that was what you were saying but I wanted to be sure -- especially since the original CCG was Dark Age: Fuedal Lords and your sig has both Fuedal Lords and Dark Ages in it.

For those of us unfamiliar with the earlier products, how can we get a sense of the system? Can you give us a quick run-down of the core resolution mechanic?

The core mechanic is a String. An example of this is 7-9-12. A 2d6 is rolled. A result of a 7 through 8 yields one success, a 9 through 11 yields two successes, and a 12 yields three successes.

Although it is in development of exactly how a player builds or acquires strings for combat, defense, skills, and so forth has yet to be determined. Two (of many other choices we are currently looking at) are either through level advancement or by spending experience to build the desired string.

Another mechanic of the system is a Task Roll. This is a based only on a 1d6. In the CCG, an example of this is: Roll a 2+ to activate X. How we will develop the Task Roll in the RPG has yet to be determine.

At this time, I am limited in what I can reveal because the RPG is in its early stages of development. We will release previews in future issues of Poor Gamer's Almanac. We will also like to talk about the system in other game magazines as soon as the situation arises.

However, with that said, we are eager to hear suggestions on elements that you feel is missing in current RPGs.

Cool, thanks. This is actually reminiscent of the old Prime Directive system (before it went all GURPSy and d20-ish :) ). I like levels of success, so that's cool.
