I'm not sure if this thread has already been started or if the linked page was simply linked on the Mike Mearls ruined everything thread.

Regardless- by saying he wanted to put something out there befoere people started the A M ruined everything thread is just BEGGING for such a thread to be created.

I may now tart creating such threads on random sites just because the idea amuses me.

It seems like a rather smug little defense of the original article:

I swear I actually clicked on the "Mike Mearls Ruined Everything Thread" before I commented on it...I was, uh, just engaging in dry wit, yeah...guess you can't handle it.

Oh and yeah...my tendentious account of 4e...well that is just Rolling Stones style journalism...you must not be familiar with real journalism if my tone or technique irked you.

Death Spiral? Well, umm...some of my friends said that they heard that 4e isn't selling as well as 3e. There is no evidence that 4e is totally awesome and as we all know, absence of evidence equals evidence of absence! Oh yeah, and I totally have all sorts of numbers and statistics about how well 3e sold so I am not pulling this out of my butt. My source? Well, you see...hey look! a beholder! ::absconds through the back door.::

Annoyed comments...well that's just because there are a bunch of divisive and unreasonable people out there who hate "classic" d&d. So really, I actually empathize with Mearls...it's us versus the unwashed masses! We are heroes really.

I'm looking forward to reading the comments that this article generates.

He's the CEO of Themis Media, which owns The Escapist. I think it's great that someone in his position is such a big fan of tabletop gaming.

Yes, he was wrong about 4e not being as successful as 3e, but he actually has a pretty good excuse: the internet is flooded with misguided speculation and outright misinformation on the subject. Every thread on ENWorld that tackles this issue, for example, is full-up with the same nonsense.

If you read through the article's comments thread, someone gives him additional data and points out the flaws in his interpretation, and he accepts the correction very graciously.

Hmm, yes, that exchange is amazingly civil and quite interesting. I am glad to see that he is willing to modify his position when presented with a well-reasoned argument. On the other hand, now I can't in good conscience say that he ruined everything.

In the best interest of keeping my mouth shut when I can't say anything nice, I will only say that Mr. Macris is a master of the "damn them with faint praise" technique.

He masterfully trolled the entire 4E community
