Alien Invasion - Anyone have this?

Who has it? How is it? Is it mostly classic UFO/invasion stuff, or is there fresh new stuff (not that there is anything wrong with the former, but I'd like a few new spins to keep things fresh.)

What do you mean by "classic" ufo invasion? I honestly didn't realize the genre was so well-defined.

I edited the book. I've read the whole thing at least twice (I also got the cruncy bits up and running in the RPGObjects Modern Character Generator). I'm not without bias when I talk about it, because my name is associated with it.

With that out of the way: the book gives you plenty of meat for running conspiracy campaigns with aliens. There's a whole section on abductions; the common stages, what one can do to prevent it, why various alien species abduct, what abductees usually end up with, etc. The amount of conspiracy material is enough fodder for plots of mega-campaign size. You'll find references to Roswell, Majestic-12, the Raelian movement, and a variety of things that may be fact but I haven't confirmed. The real world conspiracy radio show Ground Zero Radio is represented with organization write-up, NPC stats for the real people involved, and a good measure of plot hooks. I don't know if it's classic conspiracy, but it certainly is modern and up-to-date conspiracy.

Judging by what I think is your taste in products, Psion, I believe you would like this book.

Roswell and MJ-12 are so, well, early 90s-ish. I wouldn't really call that up to date and modern.

Elves, dwarves, and wizards are pretty dated too, but some people seem to still have lots of fun playing with those...

MJ-12 and Area 51 are staples of UFOlogy based invasion SF, and I don't think they're wrong for including them. But that said, I'd like some new stuff, too. ;)

Hi guys!

Alien invasion should be considered a "Core Book" in that, we had to start someplace.

So, yes, you'll see Majestic 12 stuff. Michael Tresca did his homework on Maj-12. I think it's a very good resources for people who want to use it as a primer for an "X-files" type of campaign. We have stats for various types of antagonists you'll see; Pounce Agents, Aquarious scientists, Delta Security teams, etc.

These use modern stats, they are by no means "retro."

I think Area-51 was referenced maybe once in the entire document. Area-51 is fairly cliche, so I think Mchael wanted to stray from using the base. We included a run-down of many nations which are rumored to have these types of bases. There are fully illustrated maps of each level of a typical secret military base with explainations of what you might find on each level. This could fit within the Area-51 concept, if you are interested in that sort of thing.

You'll see a brief history on extreterrestrials... very brief.

You'll find rules for using cattle mutilations and rules that determine what can happen to you if you investigate a crop Circle.

Alien abductions are also thoroughly detailed. We included rules on how to use Alien implants and what sort of effects they will have on characters.

There are 4 new templates, new backgrounds ( including the Abductee), new weapons, new spaceships, and new alien races. Fringe elements and alien cults, such as Raelians, are also covered in this book.

As I said before, this should be considered a "core book" in that we plan on moving forward with supplements and adventures. We plan on adding new advanced classes, new organizations with their own agendas, and eventually even a mammoth supplement that expores a full-blown "war of the worlds" type of scenario.

I hope this helped.

The book is incredibly crunchy. If I had to make an estimate, I'd say 70% crunch 30% background information.

Hmph... :\

I was hoping for something I could nick for my Alien Conspiracy Spycraft game...

Ahh I see!

I'm biased obviously :), but I'd recommend it anyways. You might be able to farm some stuff out of the book, especially the cults and fringe organizations.

Email me at mdavidjarvis@yahoo.com and I'll build you a special demo geared towards stuff you might find interesting.
