So, how does this game compare to Mothership?

I’ve played Mothership a handful of times, and I’ve run Alien for three sessions, so others may have more insight on this....but in my experience, they’re very similar. The difference for me is more one of tone. Mothership seems to lean more into the odd; it’s not necessarily an established setting, so it seems like more is possible. Where as with Alien, the setting is implied and there are expectations about what can and should happen.

Setting aside, though, the games seem pretty interchangeable. You could easily use material for one to run in another, and conversion probably wouldn’t be too difficult.

I think I like the Stress/Panic system in Alien a bit more. It’s very evocative and really ratchets up the suspense and makes for tense gameplay. It’s a bit more paced than the Panic in Mothership. Or seems to be so far.
