Umm... why a template? AFAIK aliens are born from the bodies of living creatures, they do not meld with their host. Why not assign them hit dice and advance them as Monstrous Humanoids?

I disagree with a template for a XM. Yes, it appears that the host's DNA may take some part in the shaping of the XM, but not enough for a template. IMO, it is better to set up the creature statistics, and include a note about customizing them based on outstanding traits possessed by the host. Somewhere on my HD I have write-ups I did for Palladium and Battlelords, and I might get around to fixing them for d20. Personally, I'm still waiting for a good Predator write-up. I never finished mine, and most of the ones Ive seen for other games over power both them and their technology.

Was the Predator write up for Fantasy D20 or Modern D20? (ModD20 didn't exist then, but you know what I mean). A Predator in Fantasy D20 probably would be disgustingly powerful with a laser sighted gun and a personal atomic nuke.

Neither. I've seen them for Palladium (M.D.C. and S.D.C.), Battlelords, and Shadowrun. Since those were the games I played, those were the ones I found, although they have probably been written up for other games as well.

That movie was probably the leading bit of inspiration for this template.

Is this any better?

I did a quick conversion of my Palladium write-up for the XM. This is the drone. I used MM format, because I don't quite have a handle on the d20 Modern stat block layout yet.

* When making a tail attack, the drone can attempt either a slam or a sting attack. Damage remains unchanged in both cases.
**It is possible that Soldier xenomorphs are not a separate type, but are simply older drones.

The drone is the most common of the xenomorphs. In a hive, the drones tend to the food chambers, and are responsible for getting new food and potential hosts. The drones are the smallest of the adults, standing no more than seven feet tall. Their exo-skeletons are brownish-black in color. Like all of the adults, they have long banana-shaped craniums. Unlike other adults, the cranium of the drone is smooth and glossy. They have long, semi-prehensile tails that are capable of supporting their body weight for long periods of time.

COMBAT
Drones prefer to enter combat with surprise, often sneaking up on a victim by approaching from above. Their favorite tactic is to grab victims by surprise and then strike the held foe with their inner mouth. Against other xenomorphs, drones will attack using all of their natural weaponry.

Acidic blood (Ex): When a drone suffers damage, the acidic blood in its body sprays out to 1d4+1 x 5 ft. (2-5 squares). A drone’s blood inflicts 1d6 damage per round for 1d4 rounds.

Acidic spit (Ex): As a standard action, a drone can spit a stream of acid. This has a range of 10 feet, and inflicts 1d10 damage per round for 1d4 rounds. This acid is also slightly toxic, so any creature struck by it must roll a Fort save (DC 12) or suffer one point of temporary Dexterity damage.

Frightful presence (Ex): When a drone snarls, revealing its inner metallic mouth, opponents within 15 feet must roll Will saves (DC 12) or become frightened. Opponents who save are immune to the drone’s frightful presence for one day.

Improved grab (Ex): When a drone scores a hit with a claw attack, it can attempt to initiate a grapple a free action without making an initial touch attack, or provoking an attack of opportunity. Once the victim is grappled, the drone will attack using its bite, and/or attempt to abduct the victim. When the drone uses its bite on a grappled victim, it threatens a critical hit on an 18-20 with a x3 multiplier. A drone can use this ability on creatures up to Medium-size.

Sneak attack (Ex): Any time the drone’s target would be denied a Dexterity bonus to AC (whether the target actually has a Dexterity bonus or not), or when the drone flanks the target, the drone’s attack deals +3d6 damage. Should the drone score a critical hit with a sneak attack, this extra damage is not multiplied.

Skills: Drones receive a +4 racial bonus to Climb, Hide, Move Silently, and Spot checks, and a +6 racial bonus to Jump checks.

I think I would make Aliens some kind of Beast, not Abberation, but this is difficult to decide. (Hmm. Maybe Aliens are even a kind of Vermin? Hey, they have a hive mind, usual for many kinds of insects, but not for other creatures)

I played Alien Vs. Predator, and I remember that aliens there could make their second "mouth" to kill an enemy outright, if the enemy didn`t move to much then.

This could be described as Sneak Attack (I believe danzig138 did it this way), but maybe it could also be a variation of the Mind Flayers "Extract" Ablity. (Slurp)
