Was reading on Sci-Fi wire where it is going to be released on DVD with some cut segments (never before seen).

Are you sure you're not confusing titles, HoE? I read at SciFi Wire that they're re-releasing the original Alien in theaters on Oct 31 with a never-before-seen 3 minute segment.

Aliens.

My All-Time-Favorite-Action-Movie-Ever.

In all my years of movie watching, I find there is still no better action-thriller than Aliens.

And Sigourney Weaver is sexy as hell.

Yep, probably still my favorite sci-fi movie ever. True hard sci-fi classic. Was happy when the DVDs came out as I could finally watch the sentry scenes which I don't think should ever have been deleted. Nice tension there.

WHY were the sentry scenes cut out? Anyone know?

Only thing I can think of is a directorial decision, based on wanting to keep involvement with the aliens close and personal at all times.

Aliens is one of the greatest sci-fi/action films of all time, no doubt. Too bad that Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection were so... mediocre.

I'm still bitter that whoever wrote the script for Alien 3 decided to kill off Hicks.

You are right! That Alien's ('s) caused me some issues...yea, that my line!:)

there's some real interesting stuff in the Alien Series documentary, which might be on the dvd (I saw it on television): several scripts for Alien 3 were rejected, including one written by William Gibson; Ridley was originally written to be a male character, and when they changed it to a woman they didn't alter any of the dialogue, they just had a secretary change all the pronouns; there were several interesting scenes in the first two movies that were deleted; Sigourney Weaver was angry that they deleted Ripley's daughter; Michael Biehn was angry that they killed Hicks, but Weaver thought it worked; Ridley Scott filmed his children in space-suits to make the exterior of the Nostromo look bigger. it's definitely worth a couple of hours if you're a fan.

as to the All-Time Greatest tag, I have to muddy the waters and nominate Blade Runner and Terminator 2: Judgement Day (hmm, there's Ridley Scott and James Cameron again).

I perfer Alien over Aliens, but they are both great movies. I say some of the documentary stuff while flipping between that and Last Starfighter. It has some great inside looks on how they did some of the things and they really seemed to push the fact that it was somehow dangerious work.
