Aliens versus Predator on Windows XP

Jürgen Hubert

First Post
When I bought a new sound card many years ago, I got a copy of the old "Aliens versus Predator" computer game with it (the first one, not AvP 2). Back then I didn't bother to try the game out, because hard disk space was sparse, I wasn't interested in Ego Shooters and I figured that my old computer wasn't up to the hardware requirements anyway.

Last year I bought a new computer, and recently I installed AvP for a lark. But for some reason, the game is really slow, even under the minimum detail levels - despite the fact that this computer has more than ten times the minimum processing power and RAM!

Has anyone here any idea what might cause this? Might be the reason that I'm using Windows XP as an operating system - which didn't exist yet when the game was written? Is there a patch somewhere that might help me out?

I can't tell you exactly what it is, but I can tell you it's not XP. I've played the game just fine in XP.

My guess is that there is some sort of hardware requirements that your system is forced to emulate in software. The requirements for the game don't seem to be anything weird, but maybe...

Also check Fox Interactive's (or whoever it is) website for updated drivers or something.

If you have ab NVidia card, go get the latest detonator driver pack from their website.

You could also try calling the tech support line.

Sounds to me like it's a video card issue. I just re-installed windows and found I had problems with that exact game until I went and got the newest Nvida drivers.
-=- Hope it helps
