Alignment Ramifications of Poison Use

Elephant

First Post
A friend of mine was rolling up a good-aligned character recently, and he mentioned that he wanted to use "the Good version of poison" because "poison is evil".

I've looked in the DMG, but I can't find anything that specifies that poison is evil. The only evidence I've come up with is:

* Paladins are barred from using poison in the Code, and
* Assassins learn to apply poison to a weapon without risk of poisoning themselves, and it's an Evil-only class.

Is there anything in the rules that actually specifies an alignment for poison? The evidence I just mentioned only suggests a perception, rather than spelling out a rule.

Actually, several african tribes use an anesthitizing (how in gods name is that supposed to be spelled???) poison that not only knocked out their prey, but prevented any pain. Such could not only be called a "good poison", but even be considered more humane than NOT using it.

Poison is usually Chaotic, because it is often illegal.

Evil, well, I can't imagine a Good use for it. It is used to maim and kill in the same way as a land mine: sure you had the proper intention when you applied it, but ... since it's on that weapon or in that trap or coating that doodad you don't know when or how it will really be used. And since you are using it, you don't really care, which is the definition of Evil.

The ironic exception is probably drow poison, because it only causes unconsciousness.

I think Libris Mortis has some kind of anti-undead poisons, or maybe they're alchemical items. Check it out.
